Komban Babu, a feared toddy shop owner involved in illicit dealings, is found dead—hanged inside his shop. The initial assumption is that his death is a suicide, but the investigation reveals it to be a premeditated murder. The scene sets the stage for the subsequent investigation and reveals the complex relationships among the characters.

Sub-Inspector Santosh starts examining the crime scene and interrogates everyone present in the toddy shop on the night of the murder. His inquiries focus on potential motives and suspicious behaviors, gradually uncovering possible clues about the murder method and suspects. The investigation aims to differentiate between a suicide and a murder plot.

Ceylon informs Santosh that Merinda, Kannan's wife, previously had an affair with Babu. Kannan, who is physically disabled, knew about this but was powerless against Babu's dominance, giving him a possible motive. The revelation highlights underlying tensions and influences the investigation's direction.

Santosh begins to suspect Suni, Babu's close associate, after questioning witnesses. Merinda reports seeing a masked figure near the toddy shop on the night of the murder, hinting at an accomplice who might have helped Suni execute the crime unnoticed. The investigation focuses on uncovering this potential accomplice.

Kannan and Suni conduct an experiment to determine if strangulation from the shop's ceiling was feasible. They conclude it was possible, supporting the theory that the murder was carefully planned. Kannan also reveals witnessing Babu's past violence and the assault on Merinda.

Kannan and Merinda reveal their conspiracy to murder Babu, seeking revenge for past abuses and her miscarriage caused by Babu. Kannan mixed sleeping pills into Babu's toddy, rendering him unconscious, before setting up the hanging with Merinda attaching a rope to Babu's pickup truck and driving it away, making his death appear accidental.

To divert suspicion, Kannan and Merinda spread rumors about Merinda's affair and a masked intruder at the shop. These stories mislead the investigation, pointing suspicion away from themselves and towards Suni, while they cover their tracks.

Kannan manipulates Suni by suggesting that Santosh might frame Suni to hide his own motives. During a confrontation, Kannan accidentally stabs and kills Suni after inadvertently setting fire to the toddy shop, escalating the chaos and complicating the case further.

Merinda calls Santosh claiming a masked intruder is attacking her, while simultaneously the toddy shop catches fire. These simultaneous events lead Santosh to piece together the sequence of events and how the victim was murdered disguised as hanging, deepening the mystery.

Santosh investigates and uncovers the truth behind Babu's murder, revealing Kannan and Merinda's conspiracy. He confronts them as they attempt to escape, leading to Kannan's arrest and Merinda's injury in the crossfire. The case begins to close with the confession of the conspiracy.
