P.O.V. A Cursed Film

Mirai and Haruna walk toward the camera down a Tokyo street and are greeted by a stagehand who mentions more behind-the-scenes footage. The crew’s typical production bustle appears—hair styling, phones, and a tense director—and hints at conflicts to come. The mood mixes casual TV energy with unease about the footage they are about to film.

Inside, the director berates the stagehand for not following directions, while a hairdresser leaves as part of cost-cutting. The producer explains they are cutting costs, underscoring a frazzled, cash-strapped production. The atmosphere foreshadows how pressure will influence what they film.

Filming begins with Mirai introducing Haruna as the guest and discussing their past work and their agency’s image. They introduce the show’s premise: viewers submit ghost videos for the program to explore. Mirai is hesitant about ghosts, while Haruna is excited to chase them on camera.

The first video shows an empty girls’ bathroom with only wind accompanying it. A stall door slowly creaks open toward the camera, building suspense as the space remains otherwise empty. The clip ends with nothing supernatural clearly visible, leaving the crew unsettled.

The director misplaces the DVD, fueling tensions as Mirai debates continuing and Haruna tries to diagnose tricks. They start the next video, which includes a school shower and a hallway from Haruna’s old junior high, along with a window that seems to hold a pale face due to pareidolia. The footage becomes unsettling as editing and reality blur.

The crew experiences more inexplicable events and a psychic is brought in to assess Haruna. The psychic claims there is a spirit possession and urges them to go to the school to resolve it. The group prepares to travel to the school, even as staffing disagreements and logistical hiccups flare.

A few days later they meet a teacher at Haruna’s old school who welcomes filming and shows a video from a student club. The footage depicts a swim-team interview with a mysterious man that appears to stand on water, prompting questions about editing and reality. Knocking sounds, vanishing staff, and doors that won’t stay closed heighten the fear as they begin investigating.

In the club room, Haruna finds a roster with names blurred out and learns the dead girl was named Yuko. The producer explains he had a past romance with Yuko, who died filming ghosts, and that he has been haunted for years. He reveals that Yuko’s final footage supposedly drove authorities to madness.

On the school roof, Haruna appears to be possessed by Yuko as the group tries to escape. The producer tumbles over the ledge in the chaos, while Mirai and Haruna struggle to pull him back. They survive the fall with the director and others calling for help as ambulances are summoned.

The producer survives but the old producer has vanished, and a new manager pushes ahead with exposing the footage. They prepare to present the film as a real work, despite warnings that it is cursed. The sequence shifts to a theater where a prescreening of the footage is about to unfold.

In the theater, Mirai and Haruna watch the recovered footage with the new manager and staff. The same initial street scene reappears, and the women sense something colder as Haruna notes a cold sensation. The new manager’s team notices the eerie events and worries if showing the film was a mistake.

As the audience watches, the lady in red emerges from the bathroom and the shocks escalate with a second wave of footage showing the shower hand and a pale security-guard figure. Mirai and Haruna watch in fear as the ghosts gather around them inside the theater. The tension crescendos as the ghosts close in on the two girls.

The film ends with the screen going black and the credits rolling, revealing that the ending was part of a fake-out. The prescreening reveals the old producer’s disappearance and a new manager insisting on releasing the film anyway. The final scenes show the theater ghosts lingering in the audience and hint at an ongoing curse as Mirai and Haruna brace for what comes next.
