Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World

Pocahontas is a perceptive bridge between Powhatan's people and English settlers. She challenges courtly expectations of civility and ultimately aligns with Rolfe to pursue a lasting peace.

Rolfe is a principled diplomat sent to negotiate with Powhatan, balancing duty with empathy. He educates Pocahontas on court life and works to keep peace amid political pressure. By the end, he chooses to accompany Pocahontas to Jamestown to continue their diplomatic effort.

King James is depicted as a monarch swayed by court opinion, slow to meet Pocahontas and quick to be influenced by Ratcliffe. He promises to avert war if Pocahontas can ‘civilize’ herself, then reacts with anger when manipulation is revealed. His decisions largely drive the escalation or de-escalation of the conflict.

Uti is Powhatan’s loyal bodyguard who travels to London to accompany Pocahontas. He acts as a protective bridge between two cultures, safeguarding Pocahontas and supporting the peace mission.

Powhatan is chief of the Powhatan Confederacy, cautious about English intentions and protective of his people. He seeks a peaceful path but remains wary of manipulation from the English court, particularly Ratcliffe.

Meeko is Pocahontas’ loyal animal companion, providing playful relief amid tense moments. The character helps underscore Pocahontas’s connection to the natural world and her people’s culture.
