In 1659, Captain Thomas Bartholomew Red and his teenage cabin boy, Jean-Baptiste 'Frog', find themselves adrift in the Atlantic Ocean. Their perilous situation sets the stage for their unexpected adventure.

The duo is rescued from a raft by the Spanish galleon Neptune, providing them a glimmer of hope amidst their struggles. However, their joy is fleeting as they are quickly imprisoned in the ship's brig.

In the brig, Captain Red and Frog meet Boomako, the ship's cook, who reveals he has been wrongfully accused of poisoning Captain Linares. This fuels Red's desire to get involved in the quest for the legendary golden throne.

The narrative intensifies when Captain Linares unexpectedly dies, creating a power vacuum on the ship. Don Alfonso de la Torré seizes command, becoming a ruthless antagonist toward Red and Frog.

During their captivity, Frog develops feelings for Maria-Dolores, the niece of Maracaibo's governor. This personal subplot deepens as tensions rise aboard the ship.

Don Alfonso, harboring unreciprocated affections for Maria-Dolores, becomes hostile toward Red and Frog. He orders their execution alongside other mutinous crew members, escalating the conflict.

Captain Red, using his cunning, devises a bold escape plan amidst the chaos. His strategy sparks a rebellion among the crew, which begins to simmer into a revolt against their oppressive captors.

In a valiant moment, Frog saves Maria-Dolores from impending danger, solidifying her feelings for him. However, this act inadvertently leads him to kill a fellow mutineer in the scuffle.

After seizing control of the Neptune, Red sails to a hidden pirate cove managed by Dutch, an old ally. A celebration ensues, but the tranquility is short-lived as chaos erupts during the festivities.

Captain Red embarks on a perilous mission to the governor's residence, taking Maria-Dolores hostage. His plan includes leveraging her wealthy uncle to trade her for the coveted golden throne.

In a desperate attempt to secure the throne, Captain Red resorts to torture to compel the governor to provide necessary documents. The tense atmosphere thickens as the stakes rise higher.

Their plan backfires as Red and his crew are captured and thrown into prison by Don Alfonso, who has now taken command of the Neptune. The atmosphere becomes desperate and tense as hope dims.

A surprise visit from Maria-Dolores rekindles feelings between her and Frog, leading to an emotional kiss in their damp cell. This brief encounter hints at budding romance amidst their dire situation.

As news of the Neptune's departure for Spain spreads, the imprisoned pirates launch a fierce assault on the prison. This exhilarating jailbreak leads to a frantic pursuit of the Neptune.

A dramatic battle ensues where Captain Red sinks his own ship, the Neptune, to prevent a retreat. As the flames consume the ship, Red, Frog, and Boomako make a chaotic escape with the golden throne.
