Piranha II: The Spawning

An idyllic Caribbean resort is menaced by vicious marine attacks arising from a sunken shipwreck nearby. Guests grow fearful as the first incidents begin to occur around the hotel and beaches. Anne Kimbrough, a diving instructor, starts to suspect the threat is something beyond ordinary sea life.

Two women and a man are killed by piranhas that can fly from the water, confirming that the danger is escalating. The attacks suggest the creatures originate from the wreck and are capable of evading typical predators.

At the local morgue, Anne and Tyler examine the victim's body. Anne explains her marine biology background and concludes the killer is not a shark or barracuda. The clues point to an engineered menace rather than a natural predator.

A nurse enters and ejects them, unaware that a piranha is hiding in the body. The creature then kills the nurse and escapes through a window, proving the threat is closer than anyone thinks.

In the rush of events, Anne leaves her credit card behind. She and Tyler share a one-night stand, complicating personal tensions as the crisis unfolds.

The next morning, Steve confronts Anne, furious about her morgue visit and the affair. He refuses to believe her warnings and doubts her explanations.

Anne tries to cancel her diving sessions, but the resort manager fires her, jeopardizing both her livelihood and the resort’s business.

During a tense encounter, Tyler reveals he is a biochemist who helped develop flying piranhas. He explains a cylinder containing the engineered fish was lost in the water.

Gabby presents Steve with a piranha wing as proof, making it clear the creatures are dangerous and somehow hunting each other. Soon after, a piranha attacks Gabby's son, heightening Gabby's resolve.

Gabby, furious after his son's death, vows revenge. Raoul hosts a nighttime fish party to capture grunion, but the piranhas crash the event, attack guests, and lure Aaron into the sea where he is killed; survivors scramble back to the hotel.

With the chaos of the party, the flying piranhas assault the guests, attacking through doors and windows. The hotel residents seek shelter inside as Gabby is killed amid the pandemonium.

As dawn arrives and the piranhas retreat in the daylight, Anne and Tyler decide that Gabby’s plan to blow up the sunken ship might end the threat.

Chris and Allison, aboard Captain Dumont's ship, are stranded at sea. Anne and Tyler approach the wreck in a motorboat to plant timer charges.

Ten minutes remain as piranhas trap Anne and Tyler inside a sunken room. Steve pilots a police helicopter, then ditches into the water to reach the motorboat and aid their escape.

Tyler is eaten by piranhas, and Anne escapes through a porthole using an anchor to reach the motorboat. The timer detonates, destroying the sunken ship and all the piranhas, and Anne surfaces to be rescued by Steve, Chris, and Allison.
