Fisherman Matthew Boyd enjoys a peaceful day at Lake Victoria, serenading the waters with a nostalgic tune. His tranquility is abruptly interrupted by a massive earthquake that unveils an ominous underwater trench.

The earthquake allows a flood of bloodthirsty piranha to escape from the ocean depths, creating havoc in the lake. Matt's horrifying fate becomes apparent as he is consumed by the ravenous fish, marking a grim forewarning for the unsuspecting public.

Sheriff Julie Forester faces the chaos of spring break at Lake Victoria, managing intoxicated students and addressing reports of the recent earthquake. She finds herself in a difficult position as her son Jake witnesses her take action against rowdy partygoers.

While picking up his younger sister from music class, Jake encounters Kelly, the girl of his dreams. She invites him to a concert party, but his efforts to connect are thwarted by Todd, the local bully.

Derrick Jones, a porn director, arrives in town for a shoot, which unexpectedly draws Jake into the world of adult film production. He eagerly agrees to work as Derrick's location scout, intrigued by the pay and excitement.

Julie and Deputy Fallon become concerned when Matthew Boyd goes missing. They discover his abandoned boat and later find his mangled body, leading them to consider closing the lake for the safety of the public.

The next day, seismologists, accompanied by Julie and Fallon, explore the newly formed chasm. Diver Sam discovers thousands of unhatched piranha eggs lurking below, revealing the sinister threat that looms over the lake.

Sam becomes a target when he is attacked underwater and bleeds into the lake, attracting the hungry piranha. Their resurgence leads to shocking revelations about the ancient species, presumed extinct until now.

Recognizing the danger, the team decides that evacuating the lake is a priority. Simultaneously, Jake neglects his babysitting duties and decides to partake in Derrick's filming instead of safeguarding his sister.

As the beach fills with spring breakers, the piranhas launch a savage assault on the unsuspecting revelers. Amid the frenzy, Julie and Fallon must implement an evacuation plan, but they face resistance from the partying crowd.

The piranha attack escalates, resulting in horrific casualties among the partygoers. Todd and Deputy Fallon meet gruesome ends as the deadly fish wreak havoc on the beach.

Under the influence, Derrick commandeers the boat carelessly, leading to a disaster that traps Kelly below deck while the piranhas flood the vessel. Jake fights against time and danger to save her.

Jake communicates with his mother as she races to save them from the lake. With Novak's help, their daring rescue unfolds amid tension and desperation, culminating with a dramatic explosion that wipes out countless piranhas.
