Kunjulakshmi, Parvathi, is the pampered, only daughter of the aristocratic Kavumpattu family in Peruvannapuram. Surrounded by five brothers who shield her from hardship, she grows up in a world where the Kavumpattu college and the family name carry weight in the village. Her sense of entitlement is clear, and her sharp tongue often lands as arrogance, even as she enjoys the comforts of privilege.

Sivasankaran, Jayaram, arrives at the college as a peon to take over Keeleri Padmanabhan’s post after a failed promise of a donation that would seal his job. Padmanabhan, Jagathy Sreekumar, is left despondent by the turn of events and the village soon nudges him to make life difficult for the newcomer so that he would quit and clear the way for the former boss. The tension between the two men quickly escalates, setting a tense tone for the town.

Padmanabhan begins pressuring Sivasankaran for money, while Sivasankaran discovers that his job includes tending to the Kavumpattu household. When he takes lunch for Kunju, she laughs at him and taunts him, a moment that crystallizes the class friction at the heart of the tale. In the meantime, Sivasankaran finds himself pushed to stand up to Padmanabhan and refuses to hand over any more cash, drawing the ire of Padmanabhan and the curiosity of the villagers.

The conflict takes a physical turn when Padmanabhan resorts to stealing coconuts from the Kavumpattu estate to make a quick buck. Sivasankaran catches the act, and in the ensuing scuffle he is accused of theft. The accusation is dropped only thanks to the intervention of Kunju Lakshmi’s grandmother, Philomina, whose presence in the household lends moral weight to the cycle of justice in the village. This incident deepens Sivasankaran’s precarious standing and further complicates Kunju’s feelings about him.

A mislaid love note written for Kunju ends up in her book, and she wrongly accuses Sivasankaran of writing it. A heated clash between Kunju and Sivasankaran’s worlds follows, and her brothers join the fight. In a bold move, Sivasankaran proclaims that he will marry Kunju within fifteen days, a declaration that instantly shifts the town’s gaze toward the couple’s future and the social stakes at play.

Although Kunju Lakshmi initially harbors aversion toward Sivasankaran, she begins to see his innocence as the pieces of the rumor mill start to fall apart. A murmur spreads that Sivasankaran might be the son of the late Vamadeva Kurup and the Kavumpattu maid, a revelation that unsettles the family’s carefully guarded secrets. This revelation softens her hatred and nudges her toward sympathy, then love, even as the ripple effects of rumor threaten to destabilize everything she once believed.

Just as the pair seem poised to navigate the storm, a new figure enters the scene: Achu, Mohanlal, the enigmatic son of the late Vamadeva Kurup of Kavumpattu. Achu is a successful businessman in Singapore, and his appearance shifts the balance of power and affection in the village. He carries Utrennyam (broad ambitions) and a worldly air that contrasts with the sheltered life Kunju and Sivasankaran share. Achu’s arrival exposes competing loyalties and tests the bond between Kunju and Sivasankaran, introducing a twist that complicates the earlier resolution they seemed to be drafting.

As the story unfolds, the social hierarchy, family expectations, and personal loyalties collide in a tapestry woven with moments of humor, pride, and quiet vulnerability. The Kavumpattu family’s legacy—its college, its estate, and its rumors—serves as a constant backdrop to the evolving romance and the villagers’ divided sentiments. The film remains a study of how love, misunderstandings, and inherited status shape the choices of young people who must determine where their true loyalties lie as new truths emerge and old secrets surface. The arrival of Achu compounds the drama, forcing Kunju and Sivasankaran to reassess their paths in a world where lineage and wealth continually tilt the scales of fate.
