Lone Wolf arrives in Alexandria

Michael Lanyard, the Lone Wolf, travels to Alexandria to help the Allied cause in World War II. He is joined by his loyal valet, Llewellyn Jamison, and soon runs into his old contact Johnny Booth, a nightclub owner who runs a network of informants. This initial assignment pulls him into a dangerous espionage game in Axis-occupied territory.

Fritz drives him to Karl's hideout; Jamison kidnapped

Fritz arrives to drive Lanyard under the pretense of taking him to Sir Robert Wembley, head of British secret service. Instead, Lanyard is taken to meet Karl, the leader of a Nazi spy ring, who threatens to kill Jamison unless Lanyard cooperates. After a tense exchange, Lanyard agrees to work for Karl and is released, with Karl hinting that a trap is part of his plan.

In Booth's private office, Lanyard meets Rembrandt and Cézanne, who discuss their spy network. Cézanne reveals that the lace Valerie is knitting contains a secret message. Rembrandt shoots Cézanne, who dies in front of the nightclub, at Valerie King's feet.

Laundry raid uncovers the plot

Lanyard and Jamison head for the laundry, where they revive Donald after an apparent assault. Inside, they discover secret rooms, overpower Karl, and find Whistler's body, a shard of a distinctive watch crystal like the one Valerie possesses, microfilming equipment, and the ashes of the defence plans. Lanyard deduces that the plans have been transferred to King's watch.

Valerie's hotel call ends in tragedy

Valerie King phones, and Lanyard pretends to be Karl to learn that she is at the hotel. Before they can reach her, Rembrandt shoots Valerie and takes the watch to Karl, collapsing another link in the chain of information.
