Night of the Running Man

Jerry Logan picks up a nervous passenger in Las Vegas who offers him $100 to get to the airport fast. The man has just stolen $1 million from Al Chambers, a mob-connected casino manager, setting off a deadly chase. The money's value draws in assassins and hitmen who will stop at nothing to recover it.

Chambers learns the money is missing and, fearing Gurino's wrath, hires the expensive hitman David Eckhart to locate and retrieve it. He sends Eckhart after Logan, who unknowingly carries the cash, turning a routine taxi ride into a perilous pursuit. The stage is set for a high-stakes confrontation.

Logan escapes with the money and flees the city aboard a train, hoping to outrun his pursuers. Eckhart closes in, and the chase hops from place to place as the bag becomes a coveted target. The escape marks the first major shift in the pursuit.

Logan confides his destination to a friendly waitress, who Eckhart intimidates into revealing where the cash is headed. When the waitress is killed to preserve the secret, the pursuit accelerates with even greater danger.

In Salt Lake City, Eckhart briefly captures Logan but Logan slips away at the airport as he boards a flight to Los Angeles. The chase expands across cities, raising the stakes for Logan's survival. The money continues to move with him.

Eckhart contacts Derek Mills, who pays off all cab drivers at the Los Angeles airport to control the rides. With few options left, Logan hitches Mills’ cab and Mills abducts him at gunpoint, driving him to Mills' house. The trap tightens as Mills becomes a deadly obstacle.

At Mills' house, Mills boils Logan's feet in boiling water to prevent escape. Logan nonetheless overpowers Mills and escapes with the money, collapsing on the street and later being hospitalized. The desperate struggle marks a turning point in the pursuit.

Logan is taken to a hospital where nurse Chris Altman tends his wounds and covers for him when Eckhart arrives. Altman's discreet support provides a fragile lifeline as the hunter tightens his grip.

While recovering, Mills overhears that Altman has moved Logan to a hotel for safety and promptly informs Eckhart, tightening the pursuit. The intervention shifts the risk onto Altman as a potential target.

Despite Logan's urge to part ways, he and Altman head to her house after depositing the money in a safety deposit box. They settle into a precarious alliance as they plan their next moves against Eckhart.

Logan proposes a deal to Eckhart to split the money and survive. Eckhart heads to Las Vegas, where Gurino orders the murder of Chambers and his wife to silence the leak and secure the operation.

Back in Los Angeles, Logan's attempt to ambush Eckhart fails to stop him. Eckhart orders Mills to beat Altman and pressure Logan to reveal the money's location.

Logan reveals the money is hidden in the basement, prompting a tense confrontation that moves to the basement. The two struggle with knives, and a wooden plank drives a nail into Eckhart, killing him.

With Eckhart dead, Logan and Altman leave the country under assumed names, paying cash for their tickets to start anew. The peril behind them, they begin a cautious plan for a quieter future.
