Night of Dark Shadows

Quentin Collins and his wife Tracy arrive at their newly inherited Collinwood estate. They are introduced to housekeeper Carlotta Drake and caretaker Gerard Stiles, who seem wary of the old house. In their first hours there, Quentin discovers a 19th-century portrait of a blonde woman with captivating green eyes that seems to hypnotize him.

Carlotta explains that the portrait depicts Angelique Collins, a woman who haunted Collinwood over a century ago. She warns that Angelique's presence lingers in the house and in its memories. Quentin senses a chilling link between the painting and his own uneasy feelings.

Alex and Claire Jenkins, friends and horror-novel collaborators, move into a nearby cottage on the estate. Their arrival adds new companionship but also deepens the sense that Collinwood is a magnet for danger. Strange events around the cottage begin to echo the couple's darker stories.

Quentin begins to suffer visions and dreams of his ancestor Charles Collins and Angelique. The line between past and present blurs as symbols of the family curse return in waking life. He becomes increasingly troubled and questions whether his own mind is betraying him.

Carlotta reveals she is the reincarnation of Sarah Castle, a girl who lived at Collinwood long ago, and that Quentin is the reincarnation of Charles Collins. She recounts how Charles's affair with Angelique led to her execution and to Charles being sealed alive with her corpse. The revelation ties Quentin's fate directly to the estate's dark history.

The Jenkinses travel to New York and discover a painting of Charles Collins bearing a striking resemblance to Quentin. They fear that their friends are in grave danger and that the house's past has come to life. They hurry back to Collinwood, anxious about what they will face.

Back at Collinwood, Angelique's ghost attacks the living, signaling that the past has returned with a vengeance. The house feels more oppressive as spectral forces close in on Quentin and his loved ones. The danger becomes undeniable.

Quentin becomes possessed by Charles Collins and tries to drown Tracy in a disused swimming pool on the estate. Alex and Claire arrive just in time to revive Tracy, saving her life. Quentin has no memory of the attack, leaving their warnings seemingly unbelievable.

Carlotta and Gerard intensify their plot to eliminate Quentin's loved ones to secure Angelique's return. Quentin notices scratches on his wrist, a physical clue to the truth that he cannot ignore. The group's trust frays as the danger grows closer.

Quentin and Gerard clash high atop a train trestle while Tracy fights to intervene. Tracy strikes Gerard with a plank, sending him to his death. Quentin bears a new gash on his cheek that mirrors Charles Collins's historical mark.

The group returns to Collinwood to confront Carlotta. She leaps to her death as Angelique calls to her from below, accepting her role in the haunting. The house's ominous energy swells as the living brace for the unsettled future.

Alex and Claire depart Collinwood first, with Quentin and Tracy preparing to leave as well. Instead, Quentin returns inside to retrieve canvases, and Tracy follows, finding him suddenly possessed by Charles Collins. Angelique is reborn in the flesh and closes in on Tracy.

On the final frame, a UPI news wire reports that Alex and Claire Jenkins have been killed in a car accident, with witnesses claiming a ghostly fog surrounded the vehicle. The camera lingers on Tracy's scream as Angelique moves in. The story hints that Collinwood's curse will continue beyond the living.
