Sivanandi killed his father Irulaiah to steal the money Irulaiah had accumulated from his thefts. When Irulaiah returned to the village after years away, Sivanandi saw an opportunity to seize the wealth and murdered him, even though Irulaiah was his own father. His mother died trying to protect Sivanandi during the murder.

The theft and criminal lifestyle established in the opening scenes laid the groundwork for this act of familial betrayal.

Ayyanar witnessed Sivanandi murder Irulaiah and believed Sivanandi should face justice for the crime. Despite being family, Ayyanar chose to inform the police, leading to Sivanandi's arrest and imprisonment for twenty years. This act established Ayyanar as a man who values justice over family loyalty.

Ayyanar's early decision to uphold the law sets the moral foundation for his later role as the village's protector.

Thavamani discovered that Thirumalaisamy, the revenue divisional officer, was siphoning development funds meant for the village. When Thavamani informed Ayyanar about this corruption, Thirumalaisamy murdered her to silence her and prevent the truth from spreading.

The corruption subplot begins when Thavamani uncovers the financial irregularities, directly leading to her death.

Ayyanar killed Thirumalaisamy in retaliation for Thavamani's murder. When he learned that Thirumalaisamy was responsible for killing her to cover up the corruption, Ayyanar confronted and killed him in a fit of rage, taking justice into his own hands.

Ayyanar's protective nature toward the village and its people foreshadows his willingness to use violence to defend them.

The police station was set on fire during a chaotic confrontation when Inspector Adithya questioned Ayyanar about Thavamani's murder. When Adithya threatened village women and pressed Ayyanar aggressively, Ayyanar slapped the inspector in anger. In the ensuing chaos, a villager reacted by setting the police station on fire, which resulted in Adithya being disfigured.

The villagers' fierce loyalty to Ayyanar and their distrust of outside authority builds throughout the film.

During the final confrontation when Sivanandi teamed up with Masanam and Adithya to kill Ayyanar, Ayyanar appealed to Sivanandi's conscience, urging him to abandon his path of violence and choose a virtuous life instead. This appeal caused Sivanandi to experience a change of heart, weakening the alliance against Ayyanar and allowing the cycle of revenge to end.

Earlier in the film, Ayyanar had implied that Sivanandi could change his ways, planting the seed for this transformation.

Irulayi was Sivanandi's sister and the daughter of Irulaiah. She remained in the village and fell in love with Ayyanar. Sivanandi attempted to use her as a bargaining tool by proposing she marry Masanam, but Ayyanar intervened to protect her, demonstrating his commitment to the family despite their troubled history.

Irulayi's affection for Ayyanar creates a personal stakes dimension to the rivalry between the two men.

At the film's conclusion, Collector Venkatraman announced that the development funds, which had been siphoned by Thirumalaisamy, would finally be allocated to the villagers. This provides a sense of justice and hope for the community, though it comes after several violent confrontations and deaths.

Thavamani's original discovery of the corruption drives the entire second half of the film's conflict.

After reporting Sivanandi to the police twenty years earlier, Ayyanar dedicated his life to helping the village. He worked to improve village life and earned respect as a good-natured beacon in the community. The villagers placed their hopes in him as their saviour, believing he would protect them from both criminal elements and corrupt officials.

The opening tragedy sets Ayyanar on his path toward becoming the village's moral protector.

Sivanandi was released from prison after serving his sentence for murdering his father Irulaiah. Upon his release, he returned to Suryakudi with a desire for revenge against Ayyanar, whom he blamed for his imprisonment. This sets up the central rivalry that drives much of the film's conflict.

The early scene of Sivanandi's arrest establishes that he would eventually return seeking vengeance.
