My Life’s on the Line

Fong Chin, known as Minute Fong, is legendary for defeating opponents in under a minute, often measured by his father's gold watch. His uncanny speed and efficiency earn him a feared reputation in the kung fu world. Some people want to hire him as a hitman, while others want him dead.

A low-life plots to have Fong Chin killed to cover up his own crimes, unaware that Fong is sitting right beside him. The would-be killer and his henchmen are killed by Fong in under a minute, illustrating his lethal skill.

Fong's brother openly criticizes his line of work and urges him to quit fighting and killing. He fears for Fong's safety and questions the morality of his life.

A flashback reveals Fong as a child witnessing his parents' murder at the hands of bandits. The trauma drives his later decisions and his resolve to survive.

Ying Ying, Fong's prostitute girlfriend, wants a normal life with him. He initially rejects her pleas, giving her money and leaving after dealing with two men who attack her.

Later, when Fong reconsideres and returns, he discovers Ying Ying has poisoned herself. Her suicide marks a turning point that hardens his resolve and complicates his sense of duty.

Chow Sau-tung learns Fong may quit and schemes to keep him under contract with a new, lucrative assignment. Chow arranges for more fighters—plus a corrupt police officer—to pressure Fong into taking another job.

Fong accepts the assignment to kill a man named Lai in a designated town, promising it will be his last job. He is drawn into a tight search where the town is filled with many men named Lai.

In the town, Fong befriends a mischievous but decent local boy who seeks a father figure. He also meets the boy's widowed mother, Chu Hua, and agrees to teach the boy kung fu on the condition that he attends school.

Mr. Lai becomes suspicious when he notices Fong's distinctive gold watch. His grandson watches from afar and begins to doubt Fong's presence in their home.

Fong starts to loosen his sense of urgency as he settles into the town and his new family life, causing Chow to grow increasingly frustrated. Two of Chow's henchmen are sent to remind him that he has three days to complete the kill.

Fong confronts Mr. Lai and attacks him, but Lai's grandson intervenes and is accidentally killed. The child dies in his grandfather's and mother's arms, leaving Fong devastated and fleeing in shame.

Chow's henchmen rush to finish the job, slaughtering the Lai family while Fong is away. When Fong returns the next morning, he finds the entire family dead, including Chu Hua who has been raped and killed.

Shattered by the revelation that Lai was innocent and manipulated by Chow, Fong confronts his brother and learns the truth. He vows revenge and sets out to hunt Chow Sau-tung and his men.
