Emily Delahunty, Maggie Smith, is an eccentric British romance novelist who lives in Umbria in central Italy, where she runs a small pensione for tourists. One day, on a shopping trip to Milano, the train she is on is bombed by terrorists, a catastrophe that plunges her into a crisis of grief and survival. Back at the villa, she invites three other survivors of the disaster to stay with her for recuperation and a return to some semblance of normalcy.
