Recently mourning the loss of his wife, Guan Zhiguo (Zhang Guoli), a retired geologist, eagerly awaits the summer arrival of his four children. However, as each one calls to cancel, he feels compelled to venture beyond the confines of his Beijing courtyard to reconnect with them.

His first stop is to visit his absent photographer son Hao (Chen He), only to discover that his atelier in Tianjin stands deserted. Disheartened but undeterred, Guan continues to Hangzhou to see his eldest daughter Qing (Yao Chen), a thriving commercial director who is married to a busy surgeon. Yet, her negligence towards their son casts a shadow over the parenting methods he once employed.

Next, Shanghai beckons him to check on his son Quan (Shawn Dou). To his shock, he learns that Quan has abandoned his stable job and apartment to chase entrepreneurial dreams alongside other young innovators. With a heavy heart, he finally arrives in Macau to visit his youngest daughter, Chu (Ye Qianyun), whom he and his late wife had nurtured to become a ballet dancer. To his dismay, she remains secretive about her dance aspirations and her intimate friendship with Zhang Xinyi (Zhang Xinyi).

As Guan engages with each of his children, the dynamics within their family become increasingly apparent, revealing uncomfortable truths and deeply ingrained emotions. A concealed secret among the siblings holds the potential to unveil the kindness and empathy that have been sorely lacking in their relationships. In this poignant journey, Guan strives to mend the ties that bind their family together, highlighting the importance of understanding and compassion in the face of adversity.
