A young woman named Suguna and her son Suresh board a bus headed for Madras. They settle in for the journey, with Suguna keeping a wary eye on the road ahead. Suresh clutches a small bag as the bus starts its route.

Later, Raghu boards the same bus and is startled by recognizing the woman and child he had seen earlier. He exchanges a wary glance with Suguna, who remains tight-lipped. The chance encounter plants the seed of a future connection.

In a flashback, Suguna and Raghu appear for the same job interview. Suguna realizes Raghu is more qualified and manipulates the situation by posing as the organisation’s manager. She tells him the vacancy is filled and he will be considered for a later vacancy, persuading him to leave.

Raghu, believing the vacancy was postponed, attends the actual interview and is hired as Assistant Manager. He later discovers Suguna's manipulation but is drawn to her intelligence. The two fall in love and eventually marry.

After marriage, Suguna leaves the company and becomes a housewife. She grows possessive and vows to never tolerate Raghu’s infidelity. Raghu leads a righteous life to reassure her trust.

Raghu is introduced to Jaya, a widow seeking help with her deceased husband’s insurance claim. He agrees to assist, guiding her through the process. This encounter sets up later strain in their marriage.

While Raghu visits Jaya's house, his clothes get soiled and he goes to the bathroom to wash up. He ends up having sex with Jaya, which he soon regrets. He returns home drunk, and Suguna grows suspicious.

Suguna confronts the truth and becomes devastated. She files for divorce and soon realises she is pregnant with Raghu's child. She gives birth to a son, Suresh, and faces the new life alone.

Five years have passed. Suguna and her son travel by bus to Madras, where they unexpectedly encounter Raghu, who is now the manager at Suguna’s office. Raghu quietly acknowledges their arrival, and the past feelings surface again.

Raghu has become the manager at Suguna’s office. She tries to resign in light of their history but cannot bring herself to leave him or her job. The tension between them remains unresolved as they navigate professional and personal lines.

Raghu rents the house opposite Suguna’s home and begins to befriend their son, Suresh. Suguna, though resistant, watches as Suresh forms a bond with his father. The dynamic shifts the family’s sense of balance.

Suguna receives a 30-day deadline to resolve their relationship, during which a series of life events unfold. She learns Raghu has been financially supporting her father and that his absence from office is often tied to being with their son. The new awareness softens her stance.

A trusted colleague stage-manages a false affair with Suguna to smear her reputation. He takes her to a lodge and stages an encounter, which causes the office to gossip. Raghu later exposes the plot and defends her honor.

Suguna suspects a remarriage is underway and confronts the situation, even planning to die with Suresh. Suresh refuses to die and asks to live with his father. Before Suguna acts, she learns the remarriage was a ruse and the family finally reunites.
