Mother Was a Rooster

Late at night, Barnyard Dawg slips into the ostrich hatchery with a plan to steal an egg and place it under Foghorn Leghorn. He hopes to fool Foghorn into thinking he laid the egg as a prank. He hides the egg and waits for Foghorn to discover it.

Foghorn awakens and is fooled by the sight of the egg, believing it came from his own actions. He trusts Dawg's prank and treats the egg as if it were his. The egg fails to hatch immediately, heightening the tension.

Desperate to accelerate the plan, Dawg bonks Foghorn on the head with a mallet to hasten the hatch. The impact speeds up the process, leaving the egg to crack open sooner than expected. Foghorn remains unaware of the manipulation.

The egg finally hatches into an ostrich chick. Foghorn immediately warms to the chick as his 'son' and begins showering it with affection, even calling himself a mother figure. The deception deepens as Dawg watches with a mix of amusement and malice.

Foghorn proudly parades the new 'son' around the farm, introducing him to Barnyard Dawg and others. Dawg insults the ostrich in front of Foghorn, who is oblivious to the ruse and defends the chick. The ostrich buries its head in the ground in shame.

Dawg makes a failed attempt to get back at Foghorn through a cruel stunt involving an anvil hanging from a tree and a rope. The plan backfires, setting off a chain of events that further strains relations on the farm. The ostrich witnesses the cruelty.

After the pranks, the story shifts to Foghorn's efforts to bond with his 'son' by teaching him sports like baseball and football. He tries to build the chick's self-esteem and show affection. The ostrich's feelings remain mixed as Dawg's taunts continue.

Despite Foghorn's attempts to protect and mentor him, Dawg relentlessly mocks the ostrich, driving the chick to withdraw into himself. Each insult makes Foghorn angrier and more protective. The ostrich buries its head in the ground again as the taunting continues.

Frustrated by the bullying, Foghorn decides to defend his son's honor in a boxing match. He builds up courage and plans to stand up for the ostrich even if it means a brawl on the farm. Dawg accepts the challenge with a scheming grin.

The fight takes place in a rough ring beneath the farm's wooden water tower. The crowd is absent, but Foghorn and Dawg fight with exaggerated, cartoonish energy. The arena is improvised, highlighting the comedic tone.

Dawg ramps up the cheating, and Foghorn answers by using a loose floor plank as a catapult. He hurls Dawg into the bottom of the water tank, turning the match into a chaotic spectacle. The water tank rocks as the fight spills outside the ring.

Dawg retaliates in kind, and the tank dislodges from its supports, crashing onto the makeshift ring. Both combatants' heads get buried in the ground as the structure collapses around them. The fight ends in a muddy, ridiculous heap.

The ostrich spectator whispers from the sidelines, realizing everyone else has vanished after the chaos. He mutters the line, 'They've left me all alone. Where did everybody go?' turning the moment into a quiet, comic aside. The scene ends on the ostrich's puzzled expression.
