Late one night, Barnyard Dawg sneaks into a quiet ostrich hatchery to steal an egg, intending to place it beneath Foghorn Leghorn and coax him into believing that he laid the egg as a playful prank. The plan unfolds as Foghorn awakens and eagerly buys into the story. When the egg doesn’t hatch right away, the schemer escalates the joke by giving Foghorn a sharp rap with a mallet, hoping to speed things along. The egg finally cracks open, revealing an ostrich chick, and Foghorn instantly embraces the chick as his own son, oblivious to the fact that the hatchling is an ostrich and even going so far as to call himself a mother. In a show of proud affection, Foghorn brings the chick out to Barnyard Dawg to display his “son,” a gesture meant to signal goodwill, but the dog’s cruel teasing cuts deep. The ostrich, overwhelmed by the taunts, buries his head in the ground in shame.

After a failed attempt at revenge—one that involves an anvil suspended from a tree limb—the story shifts to Foghorn’s earnest efforts to bond with his son. He introduces him to a variety of activities, from baseball to football, hoping to build confidence and self-worth in the young bird. Yet the relentless ridicule from Barnyard Dawg continues, and each barb sends the ostrich’s head snapping into the ground in retreat. The bullying gnaws at Foghorn, who grows increasingly protective and frustrated, ultimately deciding that he must defend his son’s honor in a boxing match.

The makeshift bout is staged beneath the farm’s wooden water tower, transforming a simple confrontation into a comic spectacle. As Barnyard Dawg attempts to bend the rules, Foghorn abandons them too, leveraging a loose floor plank as a makeshift catapult to hurl his foe toward the bottom of the water tank. The retaliation comes in kind, and the back-and-forth action repeats several times, each collision leaving the pair with more chaos. The ring grows unstable—the tank dislodges and crashes down on top of the improvised arena—leaving both Foghorn and Barnyard Dawg with their heads buried in the dirt. Watching from the sidelines, the ostrich spectator sum up the moment with a weary line:

They’ve left me all alone. Where did everybody go?
