In 2014, Japan's economy collapses, pushing people to migrate toward mainland China. Kei and Luka are introduced as two vampires who survive by feeding on others. Luka later ends his existence by watching the sunrise, establishing the deadly rule of vampirism and foreshadowing Kei's fate.

Three orphans—Shō, Shinji, and Toshi—survive by pickpocketing in the city of Mallepa. Sho encounters Kei hiding among debris and brings him back to their makeshift hideout. Kei reveals his vampiric nature after killing an attacker who had just assaulted them.

Several years pass as Sho leads a small gang consisting of Kei and Toshi. They carry out robberies against rival factions, cementing their bond and notoriety. Their exploits draw the attention of Son, a Taiwanese man who becomes part of the evolving web of alliances.

Sho and Kei cross paths with Son while raiding a rival gang's territory. Son is hunting a rapist who attacked his sister Yi-Che, and he quickly befriends the trio. Yi-Che's admiration for Kei grows as Sho's affections turn toward her.

Toshi is murdered by the local mafia using drugged pizza to sedate their targets. The brutal killing demonstrates the mafia's reach and tests the trio's loyalties in a city where crime runs deep.

As events unfold, Son and Yi-Che learn that Kei is a vampire. This revelation shifts their dynamic and foreshadows future conflicts between the humans and Kei's group.

Nine years pass. Kei is in prison for murder while Sho has become the district leader and is married to Yi-Che. Son has joined Mr. Chan's opposing mafia and becomes Sho's rival, intensifying the power struggle in Mallepa.

Sho visits Kei in prison after seeing a news report about him. Kei reveals that Sho had proposed to Yi-Che many times, because she loved Kei. Sho and Yi-Che have a daughter named Hana, tying the past to the present.

Yi-Che is diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor, raising the stakes for Hana's future. Sho's men are killed on the streets while Sho is away, and Shinji dies when he points a gun at Mr. Chan while drugged. Sho reaches out to Kei and begs him to return to help.

Kei is revealed to have been sentenced to death, a punishment he had actually requested. He escapes execution and returns to help Sho. He promises Sho that if anything happens to him, he will take care of Hana.

Sho and Kei confront Mr. Chan; the battle narrows to a 'count to three and shoot' moment. Sho's gun misfires and he is shot by Son, but Kei arrives and kills Son in a rage. Kei cradles Sho as he dies in Kei's arms.

In 2045, Hana has grown and heads off to college. She senses someone watching her, and Sho reappears as a vampire, thanking Kei for taking care of Hana in his absence.

Kei and Sho drive to the beach and wait for the sunrise, choosing to face death together. The film closes with the entire gang gathered on the daylight beach, implying an afterlife or reincarnation and reuniting the group in a final, peaceful moment.
