Moon Child

The story starts in 2014, during Japan's economic collapse that drives emigration to China, where Mallepa becomes the focal point of the protagonists' world. It then jumps to 2045, showing Hana as a young woman and revealing the long arc of Kei and Sho's intertwined lives. The era shifts from violent street life to a supernatural fate where daylight and death shape their destinies.

Mallepa is a fictional Chinese city depicted as a densely populated, multicultural hub where rival groups vie for control. The setting blends immigrant communities from various Asian backgrounds within a rough, waterfront landscape. Its atmosphere is defined by poverty, crime, and a complex web of loyalty that drives Sho, Kei, Luka and the others.

Vampirism defines Kei and Sho's fate, granting them enduring lifespans that deepen their bond and complicate their choices. The film uses immortality to explore loyalty, love, and the heavy burden of existing beyond a normal life.
