Missing

Dr. Gao Jing leads a scuba dive with environmentalists to bury carbon dioxide on the seabed. Guo Dong photographs her, and the images are later shown in an exhibition. This encounter sparks a romance that threads through the ensuing events.

Guo Dong takes Gao Jing to the Ryukyu Islands to reveal the Yonaguni underwater city, where he hides a ring to propose. Their relationship strengthens as they explore the submerged ruins. Soon after, Guo Dong is beheaded in a mysterious accident.

Xiao Kai cannot accept the body at the funeral because the head is missing and fingerprints are worn away. She suspects her brother Guo Dong may still be alive and begins to search for him. Her suspicions drive the central mystery.

Xiao Kai and Haiya Amu search a shipwreck site and discover a white-haired severed head that she believes to be her brother's. The find deepens the mystery surrounding the disappearance. The head prompts further investigations.

Dr. Gao Jing has a memory gap about the events and convinces her boss Dr. Tang to administer hypnotism therapy and drugs to recover memories. The drugs induce sensitivity to bright lights and loud noises, complicating her life. She also notices the same sensitivity in her patient Simon.

Gao Jing's patient Simon claims to have seen the dripping wet ghost of Guo Dong. He helps her contact Guo Dong, but warns that a white-haired ghost is pursuing them. Gao uses Simon to probe the whereabouts of the missing lover.

Returning home, Gao Jing discovers Xiao Kai speaking in a different accent and suspects she is channeling the ghost of Su Zhenjing. Xiao Kai asks Gao to open the canister containing the recovered head, fueling a dangerous tension. The family dynamics blur the line between living and dead.

Xiao Kai presses Gao to open the canister, but Simon warns against it. Later, Xiao Kai runs over Simon, seriously injuring him and landing him in hospital. The confrontation escalates the danger surrounding the severed head.

Gao Jing discards the severed head off her balcony and is attacked by Xiao Kai, but is halted by the police. The family turmoil intensifies as violence erupts around the case.

Gao Jing takes more of the drugs to communicate with Guo Dong's ghost, who saves her when she nearly falls down the stairs. The ghost explains that his oxygen tank was crushed by currents and agrees to stay with her. A new spectral presence complicates her reality.

Guo Dong's ghost reveals that his oxygen tank was smashed by currents, clarifying how he disappeared. Gao returns Haiya Amu's head to his father and shares a final conversation with Guo Dong's spirit. The boundary between life and death grows thinner.

Gao wakes up in a hospital with no memory of the disappearance. Xiao Kai recounts that Guo Dong disappeared after saving Gao from nitrogen narcosis. A camcorder video shows Gao stabbing Guo Dong during narcosis, though the stabbing record has been erased from the tape.

Xiao Kai brings Gao home and guides her to Feng Lai to find Guo Dong. She discovers Guo Dong's cabin and lost photographs, and on the beach finds the ring he intended to give her before walking into the sea. The quest intensifies the unresolved questions.

In the final scene, the ghosts of Gao Jing and Guo Dong swim together around the underwater city of Yonaguni, leaving the audience with a haunting image of reconciliation and loss. The mystery of the missing memories remains, but the spiritual bond endures.
