A man is chased through the streets of Nice, and the pursued man is revealed to be Alain Moreau only by the eerie resemblance to the victim. The discovery raises the possibility of a doppelgänger or a hidden past. The hotel proprietor mistakes Alain for Mikhail Suverov and hands him a message: Call Alex Bohemia.

Inside Mikhail's hotel room, Alain finds a passport bearing the same birth date as his and a plane ticket to New York, tying his fate to Mikhail. The clues suggest a shared identity and a deeper backstory. This sets Alain on a journey from Nice toward the United States to uncover the truth.

Alain's mother finally admits he has a twin brother whom she gave up at birth because of poverty, explaining the mysterious resemblance. The revelation deepens the mystery and raises emotional stakes for Alain. He begins to understand why Mikhail's existence might be connected to his own past.

At the lawyer's office that adopted Mikhail, the room erupts in flames and a Russian attacker emerges. Alain escapes with the adoption file, which confirms Mikhail was raised by a Russian family who later immigrated to the United States. The document hints at a deliberate cover story shielding Mafia connections.

Armed with the passport and plane ticket, Alain flies to New York City to investigate Mikhail's death and the family ties behind him. The Nice clues are now intertwined with a cross-continental mystery. He leaves France to seek the truth in the United States.

In New York's Little Odessa, Alain learns that Mikhail was a member of the Russian mafia. He is referred to the Bohemia Club, and a woman named Alex Bartlett mistakes him for Mikhail and hands him a hotel room key. He rents a room across the hall, anticipating danger.

Alex explains Mikhail was her boyfriend and had plans to abandon the Mafia. Alain reveals he is Mikhail's brother, shocking both of them. Ivan and his thugs attack, believing Alain is Mikhail, forcing the pair to escape.

At Mikhail's home, Alain discovers that Mikhail learned of his existence after seeing a newspaper article about his war exploits. More Russians arrive to threaten them, so Alain and Alex flee to a friend's cabin to hide.

The next morning, two FBI agents arrive at the cabin, claiming Mikhail kept evidence against the Mafia and wants to turn it over, but asking Alain to pose as Mikhail to access a safe deposit back in Nice. In truth, they intend to destroy the evidence and implicate the FBI in collusion. Alain deduces the ruse and prepares to resist.

Realizing the FBI killed Mikhail, Alain refuses to cooperate. After a fight, he handcuffs the agents and teams with Alex to confront Kirov, the Mafia's leader. They set out to expose the truth and protect themselves from further danger.

At a banya, Alain warns Kirov that Ivan is after him, and Kirov reveals the truth about the supposed evidence. Ivan sends a large thug to kill them, and Kirov dies in the ensuing struggle. Alain escapes but is soon arrested by the NYPD.

The bank deposit box contains the Mafia's evidence and a second box in Alain's name, holding cash, a gun, and a recording from Mikhail explaining his plan to escape and reunite with his family. This evidence threatens both criminals and government figures involved with the case.

Alain instructs the banker to hand over the evidence to the US Embassy and triggers the sprinkler system to facilitate his escape. Ivan, accompanied by Sebastien as a hostage, sends in a big Russian; the thug kills the banker and seizes the evidence, but Alain catches him in the elevator and kills him.

Outside, police block Ivan's escape and Alain shoots out his tires, rescuing Sebastien. He then chases the corrupt FBI agents into a meat locker, killing them and securing Alex's safety as Mikhail's evidence leads to multiple arrests. In the closing moment, Alain takes Alex to meet his mother to finally tell her about Mikhail.
