Manu Uncle

Manu, Mammootty, is a Kollam-based researcher in astronomy whose calm, curious life sits alongside a family rooted in public service. His father is a police officer, a detail that quietly shapes Manu’s approach to danger and truth. The family’s close circle includes Ravunni, Prathapa Chandran, an exporter who is a longtime family friend, and neighbors Antony and Mary, who live nearby. Antony and Mary raise two lively children, Dany a.k.a. Lother and Ikru, who together with Manu’s elder sister’s children form a four-member team led by Dany. The kids spend their vacation days wandering through the city, visiting different places, and playing harmless pranks, all while slowly weaving a shared world of curiosity and adventure. Their days are brightened by a casual brush with the local film world when they have a brief encounter with Mohanlal, Mohanlal, whose presence adds a touch of stardom to the ordinary summer.

The peace of this small circle is threatened the day the Art Museum becomes the scene of a daring theft: Marthanda Varma’s Crown vanishes, triggering a chain of events that pulls Manu and the children into a dangerous mystery. Ikru, quick and observant, catches sight of three robbers—Gomez, Appu, and Kittu—but the details slip through his fingers, and he cannot clearly describe them to his Grandpa. Manu, who has built a sophisticated communication network, manages to eavesdrop on a crucial radio exchange between Kittu and Gomez, where the plan to loot Marthanda Varma’s Sword is laid bare. Recognizing the seriousness of the crime, Manu informs his police-officer father, and the two hurry to Padmanabhapuram Palace, a location that will become a focal point for the unfolding drama.

By the time Manu and his father arrive, Gomez has already grabbed the sword and is attempting a tense escape. A collision of wits and force ensues as man and intruder collide in the palace’s shadowed corridors and courtyards. Manu sustains an injury in the scuffle, but the real blow comes when the robbers unleash a premeditated lorry accident intended to silence the pursuit and seal their escape. Tragically, Manu’s father is killed in what is later revealed to be a carefully orchestrated murder, and the weight of the loss begins to press on Manu and the others who were nearby. The mastermind behind the whole scheme becomes clear through the threads left in the wreckage: Ravunni is the one pulling the strings, orchestrating the illegal export activity and the robbery from behind the smiles of familiarity.

A witness to the crime, Khader, a young orphan, was in the lorry during the tragedy. He manages to escape the gang’s clutches, and his testimony becomes a key link to the unfolding truth. Khader later crosses paths with the four children and reveals a devastating truth: their Grandpa did not die by accident; he was killed. This revelation—echoing through small-town rooms and the family’s shared grief—sparks a determination to uncover the full extent of Ravunni’s plan and the gang’s operations.

As the children lean into the mystery, they intercept additional radio traffic that sharpens their suspicions. Manu records and interprets the exchange between Gomez and Ravunni, and Ravunni himself briefly acknowledges his own dangerous identity when confronted by the young investigators. Ikru’s drawing of Gomez, created after a tense moment with the gang, becomes a telltale piece that confirms Manu’s suspicions about Ravunni’s true role. Manu’s investigative instinct leads him to break into Ravunni’s house, where the clues begin to align with the children’s notes and Khader’s account.

The group’s next move is audacious: they plot a direct route to the gang’s hideout, following the faint breadcrumbs left by the radio chatter and Khader’s testimony. The gang, alerted to the intruders, breaches the safety of their fence and moves to silence the threat by any means. Ravunni orders his men to act, and danger closes in around the four youngsters. In a pivotal moment, Manu arrives just in time, aided by SI Minnal Prathapan, Suresh Gopi in a well-meaning, bumbling police role, whose presence tilts the balance toward rescue and justice. The combined effort of Manu, the four children, and the diligent officer leads to the gang’s arrest, bringing an end to Ravunni’s plan and restoring a measure of safety to the community.
