Kuruppumash [Innocent] is the headmaster of a public school, and he is married to Kunjulakshmi [KPAC Lalitha]. The couple visits a temple to pray for a child, hoping their family will grow. One day they return late to the school, where the District Educational Officer (DEO) has been waiting anxiously. The DEO’s initial anger softens when he learns about Kuruppumash’s childless status, but he bluntly tells them to either get a doctor’s checkup or marry someone who can bear a child. This revelation hits the couple hard, and Kunjulakshmi, overwhelmed by guilt, even contemplates taking her own life. In a surprising turn, she urges Kuruppumash to take Saraswathi [Zeenath] as another wife who can bear him a child, so that their family line can continue uninterrupted. Kuruppumash is torn, but he agrees to this arrangement because Saraswathi is now carrying his child as well.
As time passes, Kunjulakshmi becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son, while Saraswathi also has a child, and later another child is born in her household. Yet tensions rise between Kunjulakshmi and Saraswathi because Kunjulakshmi wants Saraswathi to leave, feeling that she has her own child now. Kuruppumash, however, refuses to send Saraswathi away, since she is also his wife with a child. The rivalry between the two households intensifies, with Kunjulakshmi living in the old house and Saraswathi in a nearby home, each family trying to secure its own position.
Madhavankutty [Mukesh], the son of Kunjulakshmi, and Krishnankutty [Saikumar], the son of Saraswathi, grow up and soon face life’s pressures in different ways. They end up at the same job interview, where a comedic yet competitive race by taxi turns into a heated confrontation. Their rivalry continues even as they reach the interview site; in the chaos, they damage the garden and are expelled from the process. Meanwhile, Suma, Krishnankutty’s sister, studies in college and is stalked by a fellow student. When he tries to grab her hand on a walk, Suma slaps him, and Madhavankutty steps in to defend her; a clash ensues, and Krishnankutty admonishes both men for getting involved with Suma.
Auto-rickshaw driver Manikandan [Jagadish] enters the story, bringing a job opportunity for Radhika [Vaishnavi] to Kuruppumash. In a moment of high speed, Manikandan loses control and collides with Kuruppumash’s cycle. He drops Radhika at Kunjulakshmi’s house, but Kuruppumash refuses the job. Later, Manikandan introduces Radhika to Saraswathi for a recommendation, mentioning that Radhika hails from the prominent Valiakoickal family; Saraswathi agrees, hoping to gain influence over the school. Subadhramma, Radhika’s mother, moves into a rented house with her daughter, and this plan is echoed as Manikandan speaks to Kunjulakshmi, who also agrees to the arrangement.
The next day, Madhavankutty travels to Radhika’s house in Manikandan’s auto. Subadhramma experiences chest pain and is rushed to the hospital, while Radhika is dropped off there by Krishnankutty, who also donates blood. At the hospital, Madhavankutty reveals privately to Radhika that Krishnankutty has an incurable illness, which fuels tension between the two men back at home.
Madhavankutty and Krishnankutty become fierce rivals in the race to marry Radhika. Madhavankutty tries to secure Radhika’s future by giving Subadhramma forty thousand rupees and sweetening the deal with Kuruppumash for Suma’s marriage. Radhika’s job would be confirmed if Pisharady Mash retires early, but Krishnankutty intervenes by bribing Mash to stay—Mash relents, but tragically dies in transit after agreeing to retire early.
Accusations of murder swirl as Madhavankutty and Manikandan are dragged into a false case. Suma hides them in the attic of Krishnankutty’s house, and Krishnankutty, upon discovering Suma serving them food, locks the attic door, leading to the arrest of both men. An autopsy later reveals that Mash died of a heart attack, clearing Madhavankutty and Manikandan of murder charges. A twist of miscommunication leads Kunjulakshmi to prematurely cancel Suma’s engagement to her college foe, while Krishnankutty arranges for Suma to marry the same rival due to old rivalries.
On the day of the weddings, Madhavankutty and Radhika are set to marry, while Suma and her college enemy are also to wed. Madhavankutty intervenes to protect Radhika, triggering a clash with Krishnankutty in a paddy field. Manikandan and Kuruppumash attempt to intervene, but Krishnankutty accidentally sustains a wound to the forehead, sending Kuruppumash into a hospital emergency. In a final turn, Madhavankutty, Krishnankutty, Kunjulakshmi, and Saraswathi settle their differences and forge a fragile alliance. The doctor’s prognosis suggests Kuruppumash may not regain his memory, but in a final moment, Kuruppumash closes one eye at Manikandan as the hospital vehicle pulls away, revealing that the feigned memory loss may have been a deliberate act to protect those around him.
