In AD 66, Jerusalem lives under Roman rule that is harsh and efficient, with the empire's wealth concentrated among the elite. The occupation is bolstered by a system that corrupts the Temple priests and the governing class. The oppressive climate fuels resentment among the common people and sets the stage for an uprising.

Ben Batich, a young Jew burdened by heavy taxes and Roman tyranny, begins questioning the status quo. His uncle Rabban Yohanan ben Zakkai preaches moderation, but Ben is drawn to radical methods. He becomes the leader of the fanatical Sicarii, channeling frustration into rebellion.

At the revolt’s outset, Ben Batich collaborates with the formidable warrior Shimon Bar Giora to strike against Roman forces. Their alliance is uneasy and short-lived, as personal ambitions and rivalries soon pull them apart. The partnership ignites the early momentum of the uprising.
