Last Straw

Nancy Osborne is a waitress at the local diner owned by her father, Edward Osborne, who is a widowed man seeking to remarry. One day, Edward promotes Nancy to manager, encouraging her to take charge of the diner while he explores new relationships. The staff includes the cook, Jake Collins, janitor Peter, Jake’s mentally challenged younger brother Bobby, and additional unnamed employees. However, Nancy’s life takes a drastic turn when she experiences a bout of nausea during her shift, leading Jake to suspect that she might be pregnant. His suspicions soon turn out to be true, as her pregnancy leads to increasingly erratic behavior.

A confrontation with a group of rowdy teenagers in the diner escalates, prompting Nancy to make the impulsive decision to fire Jake despite his pleading to keep his job for financial reasons. Her father chastises her for letting go of their only chef, and as Nancy grapples with the chaos, she chooses to stay late and work on managing the diner’s finances. Unfortunately, her night takes a turn for the worse when a gang of masked men invades the diner, creating terror and panic. After calling for help, the situation becomes even more dire when the police respond, only to be ambushed and killed by the intruders, forcing Nancy to hide to survive.

During the chaos, Bobby gets captured alongside Nancy, and while they endure torture, Nancy finds a way to fight back and manages to stab one of the attackers, whom she discovers is Peter. Meanwhile, Jake, motivated by his addiction, spirals further into a violent rage after being fired and begins to take revenge on those he blames for his misfortunes. His destructive path leads him to slay the teenagers he holds responsible for Nancy’s anger and to threaten Bobby and his brother, escalating the danger surrounding Nancy.

As events spiral out of control, the tragic story unfolds further, revealing Jake’s unpredictable and menacing nature. After a series of deceptive turns, including attempts by Edward to reinstate Jake, the tensions culminate in tragedy when Jake inadvertently kills Bobby and threatens Nancy. Knowing Nancy is in distress, her friend Tabitha arrives to check on her but is horrified at the gruesome scene. In a shocking twist, Jake brutally stabs Nancy, seemingly putting an end to her ordeal. However, thanks to the clever use of a bag of meat to shield her stomach, she survives the encounter.

In her moment of vulnerability, Nancy confides in Bobby about her secret—revealing that Jake is the father of her unborn child after a fateful night together. In a moment of fierce determination, Nancy confronts her attacker, driving to Jake’s residence to take matters into her own hands. A fierce confrontation ensues, resulting in Jake’s demise. Exhausted and injured, she drags herself back to the diner just as her father arrives, horrified by the grave situation and promptly calls for an ambulance for his daughter in her moment of need. The tragic chain of events highlights the intertwined fates of the characters, showcasing the devastating impact of choices, addiction, and the struggle for survival.
