In the shadow of Fatehpur Sikri, a sprawling Mughal fort that seems to breathe the weight of centuries, the story unfolds amid whispered legends of blood‑stained stones and a lingering curse. The air is heavy with the scent of incense and the echo of distant drums, giving the palace a timeless, almost haunted quality. Within these walls, a sense of restrained grandeur coexists with an undercurrent of unease, suggesting that history is never far from the present.

At the center stands a man of iron will, Raja Kumar Bahadur, also known as Gyan Shankar Rai. A scholar and former heir to a line plagued by madness, he has deliberately renounced alcohol, women, and other worldly vices, seeking a pure existence guided by his studies of history and psychology. Yet his rigid self‑control is constantly tested by the expectations of lineage and the silent specter of an ancestral malediction, creating a tension between duty and desire that defines his every move.

The arrival of a young widow, Saudamani, introduces the first crack in his austere facade. Later, a luminous newcomer, Sumita, steps into his world after a chance encounter, her own family burdened by debt.
