In 1936, the Widdington sisters, Janet and Ursula, live a serene life in the charming coastal town of Cornwall, England. They enjoy the peaceful surroundings of their quaint fishing village, immersed in their daily routines and the beauty of their environment.

The sisters' tranquility is shattered when a storm strikes as a young Polish violinist named Andrea is on his way to America. Tragically, Andrea is swept overboard, resulting in his shipwreck and leaving his fate uncertain in the tumultuous waters.

After the storm, Andrea's shipwrecked form washes ashore near the Widdington sisters' home. The sisters discover him and take it upon themselves to nurse him back to health, despite the additional burden it places on their already disrupted lives.

As Andrea recovers, his presence begins to influence the sisters, particularly Ursula. She finds herself increasingly drawn to the handsome violinist, igniting feelings she's never experienced before, which complicates their newfound dynamic.
