On a bright summer day, Adrien and his fiancée part on strained terms as she heads to London for five weeks. Adrien chooses Rodolphe's house near Saint-Tropez as his holiday retreat. The two men settle in for a quiet break, planning to read and swim away from their troubles.

Daniel arrives at the house and reveals there is a third occupant: Haydée. Rodolphe has bedded her, and she brings a different boy home every night, which unsettles the men. The trio braces for the shift in their holiday dynamic.

Haydée is introduced as the third occupant, charming yet provocative. The two friends unite to ban any more male visitors and gate her in, trying to maintain order. They bully the decade-younger Haydée, branding her a collectionneuse, a collector of men.

The couple escapes and drives back to the villa. Adrien, still hopeful, thinks Haydée might be good at heart and that with Daniel gone he can spend the last week of his holiday with her. The mood shifts as the holiday's dynamics dissolve.

Two men in an Italian sports car recognize Haydée and invite her to join them in Italy. She takes her overnight bag from Adrien's car and leaves with them. The invitation signals a decisive break from the previous arrangement.

Adrien waits briefly and then returns to the empty villa alone. He realizes the holiday’s former aim of peaceful reading and swimming no longer satisfies him. He picks up the phone to book a seat on the next plane to London.
