Kundo: Age of the Rampant

In 1862, Korea is engulfed in turmoil due to the failures of the Joseon dynasty. Natural disasters and poor economic management have resulted in mass suffering among the population, leading to widespread hunger and death.

A resistance movement, the Chusul clan, emerges as a response to the oppression by the ruling aristocracy. They engage in acts of defiance, robbing corrupt officials and redistributing wealth to the impoverished, who are in desperate need of aid.

The Chusul clan executes a daring raid on Governor Choi's estate, targeting him for his brutal rule in the Naju region. They successfully confiscate his rice stores and distribute the grain to the starving local populace before executing Choi and his men.

Dol Mo-chi, a humble butcher, faces an ethical dilemma when asked to fulfill a hit job by the young nobleman Joo Yoon. Despite the lucrative reward, Mo-chi chooses to spare the intended victim, allowing them to escape, which sets off a chain of devastating events.

Following his decision to let his target flee, Mo-chi is attacked in his home by Joo Yoon's henchmen. His house goes up in flames, and amidst the chaos, Mo-chi manages to escape but is later captured and imprisoned by Yoon’s forces.

Mo-chi finds himself unjustly imprisoned and is slated for execution at dawn, as the conspiratorial governor of Naju has been bribed. He grapples with despair while the threads of fate surrounding him and Joo Yoon grow increasingly entangled.

A glimpse into Joo Yoon's troubled background reveals he was born to a prostitute, raising his resentment towards the legitimate heir, Seo-in. This animosity fuels his ambition and manipulative tendencies as he navigates through the ranks of power.

Unexpectedly rescued by a group of bandits, Mo-chi, now dubbed 'Dochi', undergoes a transformation over the next two years. Under their mentorship, he becomes a skilled fighter and takes on a paternal role for Seo-in's orphaned son.

Outraged by Joo Yoon's exploitation of the poor, Dochi and the bandits plan a daring raid on Naju. This confrontation results in a fierce battle, where Dochi cunningly outsmarts Joo Yoon, recovering stolen rice and inspiring hope among the citizens.

In response to the raid, Joo Yoon ruthlessly retaliates, imprisoning townsfolk and torturing bandits for information about their hideout. His vengeful approach escalates tensions and suffering among the already beleaguered population.

Despite being injured, Dochi resolves to seek vengeance against Joo Yoon after witnessing the bandits suffer grave losses. He prepares for a showdown as Joo Yoon leads a punitive raid against the bandits, causing chaos and destruction.

With the townspeople rallied around him, Dochi emerges with a Gatling gun to confront the government troops. This culminates in a united attack on Joo Yoon's manor, setting the stage for an epic final duel between Dochi and his enemy.

During their intense battle in the bamboo groves, Dochi catches Joo Yoon off guard, delivering a fatal blow. As camaraderie and unity of the oppressed townsfolk surge, they take justice into their own hands, ensuring Joo Yoon's demise.

In the aftermath of the conflict, Dochi rises to become the leader of the bandits, uniting them and the citizens of Naju. His commitment to safeguarding the precious child and the hope for a new future instill a renewed spirit of rebellion.

As the dust of battle settles, Dochi leads his people into a hopeful future. The struggle against oppression transforms him into a beacon of hope, lighting the path for the Chusul clan’s rebellion and the quest for justice.
