Killer Constable

At a lavish banquet in the Forbidden City, Empress Dowager Cixi orders security chief Liu Jing Tian to capture the five thieves who stole 2 million taels from the Royal Treasury. Liu tasks Killer Constable Leng Tian-Ying to assemble his best men and retrieve the gold within ten days. Leng accepts the assignment, but his brother Cun Yi refuses to join, fed up with Leng's merciless, execution-style justice. The mission is set in motion as the chase begins.

Leng accepts the assignment and begins assembling his small group of trusted officers. He gathers specialists skilled in pursuit, interrogation, and swift action to form a capable task force. The team sets out with the ten-day deadline looming over their heads.

Cun Yi, Leng's brother and fellow constable, declines to participate, tired of Leng's ruthless, execution-style approach. His refusal creates tension within the pursuit and foreshadows personal conflict to come. The squad presses on without him.

The team traces the thieves to a watermill where Leng tortures the miller to extract information. The miller dies under the interrogation, and only a small portion of the stolen treasure is recovered. The investigators realize the case is more complex and perilous than expected.

Two bandits ambush Leng and his men in an abandoned temple. Peng Lai, who had wandered off to feed starving villagers, is staked alive, and Leng is forced to execute his companion to end his suffering. The violence heightens the cost of the pursuit and tightens the noose around the thieves.

Leng and his squad chase the surviving bandits to the seaside, where another ambush tests their limits. The pursuit grows personal as the thieves push back with greater ruthlessness. The team regroups, determined to close in on the culprits.

The bandits reveal a highly skilled assassin, Fan Jin-Peng, whom they intend to hire to kill Leng. Leng defeats the assassin in combat but is injured in the fight, and the older constable Ma Zhong is killed in the chaos. The costs of the mission mount as the body count rises.

Following the encounter with Fan Jin-Peng, gang leader Fang Feng-Jia and the remaining bandits ambush Leng and his surviving men. Leng fights back but is soon overwhelmed, and the confrontation leaves his group shaken. The attackers reveal the threat is far more organized than expected.

Leng is carried unconscious on horseback to Fang Feng-Jia’s residence and is welcomed there. Fang’s blind daughter Xiao Lan tends to his wounds with quiet care. The rescue is aided by the unexpected return of Leng’s brother, which shifts the balance inside Fang's group.

Inside Fang’s residence, Leng and Fang suppress their true conflict and pose as allies for the sake of Xiao Lan. Their uneasy truce allows Xiao Lan to trust Leng, while both men keep their real motives hidden. The fragile arrangement buys time as they plan their next moves.

When Leng and Fang depart Fang’s residence, Leng wounds Fang during a bitter clash, sending Fang fleeing to his hideout. They are then attacked by a mysterious group of armed men who do not belong to Fang's gang. Fang, dying from the wounds, reveals that Lord Liu orchestrated the theft and sent troops after them to erase evidence.

Leng learns that Cun Yi was killed by Lord Liu's troops, and the whole operation was a cover for Liu's scheme to hide the stolen gold. The revelation reframes the chase as political manipulation rather than a simple robbery. Leng steels himself for vengeance against Liu.

Leng tracks down and murders Lord Liu to avenge his brother and expose the conspiracy. As Liu dies, he triggers a trap that detonates or collapses the area, mortally wounding Leng. The act achieves vengeance but costs Leng his own life.

With the chief antagonist dead and Leng’s fate sealed, Fang’s blind daughter Xiao Lan waits in vain for either her father or the constable to return. The story closes on a quiet, unresolved note as the treasure remains unrecovered and loyalty is left in doubt.
