Kid Galahad

Nick Donati is double-crossed by his boxer who accepts a $25,000 bribe. Frustrated, Nick and his girlfriend Fluff decide to blow the rest of the money on a wild, days-long party. The plan is to celebrate while they search for a new boxing prospect.

Nick orders naive bellhop Ward Guisenberry to mix drinks for the party, but Ward does not know how to bartend. Fluff steps in to teach him enough to get by, turning an awkward assignment into a bonding moment. The chaotic party continues around them.

Morgan, Buzz Barret, and Chuck McGraw crash the party uninvited and threaten the group. When McGraw pushes Fluff, Ward punches him, knocking him to the floor. Impressed by Ward's grit, Nick sees a potential future champion in him.

Ward steps into the ring against McGraw's experienced brother. To everyone's surprise, Ward wins by knockout, signaling that he has real boxing talent. The result changes everyone's plans.

To protect Ward from Morgan's wrath, Nick sends him, Fluff, and Silver Jackson to New York City by train. Outside their hotel, Morgan tries to lure Ward into signing with him, but Ward knocks him down and insists he will only sign with Nick.

Desperate Fluff hides Ward at Nick's mother's farm. There Ward meets Nick's sister Marie, fresh from convent education, and their initial clash foreshadows a budding romance. Nick becomes furious at this interference with his boxing world.

Rechristened 'Kid Galahad', Ward racks up a string of knockout victories and wins over several opponents. Fluff's feelings turn complicated as she confronts Ward's confession of love for Marie. Marie also confesses her love for Ward, deepening the love triangle.

Fluff admits her love for Ward but cannot bear to stay nearby while he loves another. She quits the life with Nick and takes a job singing in a nightclub. Ward's relationship with Marie grows during this time.

In Ward's next fight, Nick orders him to box and win on points to delay a title shot. Morgan coaches Ward's opponent on what to say to enrage him, setting up a knockout outcome. Ward ends up winning by knockout despite the planned strategy.

Newspaper photographers capture Ward with both Marie and Fluff after a night out. The public images reveal Ward's romantic entanglements, and Nick finally learns about the affair with his sister. The tension between them mounts as Ward's fate in the sport becomes more entangled with personal loyalties.

Infuriated, Nick secretly bets against Ward in the championship bout, while Morgan also risks a fortune. Ward follows Nick's orders at first and is knocked down repeatedly by McGraw, as the crowd roars. Fluff and Marie plead for him to stop, and Nick finally changes tactics, allowing Ward to turn the fight around and knock out McGraw.

After Ward's victory, Morgan arranges to be alone with Nick, Ward, and Silver in the changing room. A gunfight erupts and both Nick and Morgan are fatally shot, leaving Ward and Marie to grieve and move forward. Before dying, Nick gives his blessing to Ward and Marie.
