Nate Norman lives in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with his younger brother and their single mother. Struggling to support the family, she juggles multiple jobs while Nate, only 19, drops out of high school and spends his time smoking marijuana.

Nate's life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters a wealthy playboy during a pizza delivery. This chance meeting presents Nate with the opportunity to smuggle premium marijuana from Canada, sparking a dangerous adventure.

Intrigued by the idea of cannabis smuggling, Nate consults a lawyer to learn about Canadian marijuana laws. He discovers that these laws are significantly more lenient than those in the United States, igniting his entrepreneurial spirit.

Nate and his best friend, Topher, don camouflage gear and trek into Kootenai National Forest on their way to Canada. Their excitement peaks when they finally see a speed limit sign indicating they have crossed the border.

Upon returning briefly to the U.S., Nate and Topher sell a salvaged motorboat to gather funds. This gives them a modest startup capital of $1,800 to finance their marijuana smuggling venture.

As they attempt to cross back into Canada, Nate and Topher have a nerve-wracking encounter with Border Patrol. The situation escalates with full cavity searches, testing their nerves as they try to pursue their goal.

Arriving in Creston, British Columbia, the duo visits a marijuana dispensary but is warned by a suspicious individual to avoid any shady dealings. Undeterred, they make a risky purchase of lower-quality cannabis before returning to the U.S.

Following their first attempt at smuggling, Nate and Topher meet Nicole Grefard in Nelson. She offers them access to a larger supply of high-quality marijuana from her family's grow operation, enticing them further into the business.

To scale their operation, Nate approaches the notorious drug kingpin Barry Lerner for funding. After initially skeptical, Barry is convinced after sampling their product, lending Nate $666,000 with a stern warning against betrayal.

With the funding secured, Nate assembles a crew of six friends for a rigorous training program. This preparation marks the official launch of their newfound venture into drug smuggling, filled with risks and challenges.

As their marijuana operation flourishes, Nate indulges in a lavish lifestyle, attending extravagant parties and showering his family with gifts. This newfound wealth, however, comes with its own set of risks and dangers.

The peace of their successful venture is shattered when rival dealer Brendan Butler confronts Nate at gunpoint, escalating tensions. This confrontation culminates in a violent explosive birthday party that signals the start of more trouble.

As violence surges in the neighborhood, Nate's crew faces a robbery attempt from the Mendiola brothers, hired by Butler. They narrowly escape the encounter, but the fallout implies their troubles are far from over.

As the pressure mounts from law enforcement, Nate makes the heart-wrenching decision to turn himself in to protect his family. This act of sacrifice signifies a moment of reckoning for Nate, highlighting his struggle between freedom and family.
