In a psychiatric ward, Colonel Sahab is the attending doctor and Nurse Radha (Waheeda Rahman) is heart‑broken after civilian patient Dev Kumar (Dharmendra) leaves, having fallen in love with him. When poet‑writer Arun Choudhury (Rajesh Khanna) is admitted with acute mania after a romantic rejection, Radha reluctantly nurses him.
