Kermit’s Swamp Years

Kermit the Frog, now an adult, rides his scooter along a dirt road on his way back to the swamp where he first grew up, reminiscing about his childhood adventures and reflecting on the journey that shaped him. The story takes us back to when Kermit was just a 12-year-old frog living a peaceful amphibian life with his two best friends, Croaker, a charismatic and smooth-talking frog who is known as the best hopper in the swamp, and Goggles, a shy and socially awkward toad. Despite his curiosity about the world beyond the swamp, Kermit’s friends are more content with their simple life, but Kermit’s imagination fuels his desire to explore what lies outside their home.

One day, their routine is disrupted when they encounter a stern science teacher, Dr. Hugo Krassman, played by [John Hostetter], and his assistant, Mary, who are on a mission to capture frogs for scientific experiments. The trio of young frogs is saved from their grasp by Arnie the Alligator, who warns them about the dangers that await outside the safety of the swamp, especially the threat posed by humans and their activities. The next day, the friends run into Blotch, a large and aggressive bullfrog, who bullies Goggles, leading to a scuffle that spills onto a nearby road. During this incident, Goggles and Blotch are captured by a pet store owner named Wilson, played by William Bookston, prompting Kermit and Croaker to embark on an adventurous rescue mission.

At the pet store, Blotch’s bravado gets him into trouble when his bullying causes the group to be caged with Vicki, a venomous snake who sees Blotch as prey. Goggles quickly saves himself and Blotch by provoking Vicki into attacking him and then using his own poison gland as a defense, demonstrating unexpected bravery and resourcefulness. The animals at the store try to convince Goggles and Blotch that being sold as pets means a life of comfort and luxury, offering hope for a better future outside the dangers of the wild.

However, misfortune strikes when Croaker, who gets run over by Wilson’s truck, sustains injuries that cause him to lose his ability to hop and a significant amount of his confidence. Despite this setback, Croaker remains determined to help his friends. Along their journey, they meet a stray dog named Pilgrim, voiced by [Cree Summer], who rescues them from Krassman and Mary and decides to lend her aid. Using helium balloons, Kermit tracks Wilson’s truck, but the animals soon discover their friends are taken to George Washington High School, a place notorious for where animals are never seen again.

Kermit, Croaker, and Pilgrim devise a daring plan to infiltrate the school, with Kermit sneaking in on a student’s backpack. Once inside, they find their friends about to be dissected by Dr. Krassman, who intends to perform experiments on them. In a selfless act of friendship, Blotch volunteers to be dissected in Goggles’s place, while Croaker steps up to take Goggles’s place when Krassman targets him. Krassman’s true intentions are revealed—he is haunted by his childhood humiliation when a frog he tried to dissect begged him to stop but was ignored and silenced. This revelation leads Krassman to realize that frogs can talk, and with Kermit’s brave intervention and heartfelt plea, he finally releases all the captive frogs, ending the experiments and freeing them to return home.

Amidst the chaos, Kermit’s quick thinking and bravery lead to a fight with Krassman, during which he uses some swashbuckling moves he learned earlier at a movie theater to fend off the scientist. He also confronts Krassman’s cruelty, stopping him from harming Goggles. Kermit’s compassionate appeal and moral courage persuade Krassman to abandon his plans, and he finally admits to his past mistakes, freeing the frogs and allowing the group to leave the school. The animals get a ride back to the swamp in Wilson’s truck, with Wilson himself deciding to adopt Pilgrim, and the friends return to their beloved home.

The story concludes with Kermit reflecting on the importance of friendship and perseverance, appreciating how his friends have remained loyal over the years before finally arriving at the swamp’s border. The reunion with his friends and family signifies the end of his long journey, reaffirming the timeless message that hope, courage, and true friendship can overcome even the greatest obstacles. Kermit’s adventurous spirit and unwavering kindness leave a lasting impression, inspiring everyone that sometimes, the greatest adventures happen when you dare to believe in yourself and your friends.
