In a vibrant, ancient kingdom ruled by a king known for his stern yet humane demeanor, the court pulses with scholarly ambition and the weight of tradition. Kalidasa begins his journey as a modest shepherd, his days spent watching flocks under open skies. When the kingdom’s chief minister hatches a scheme to secure his son’s future, the king redirects the plot toward a more exalted prize: a marriage to his learned daughter, Vidyadhare. The minister, seeking a seemingly underestimated contender, brings Kalidasa into the royal arena, setting him against the princess’s formidable intellect in a series of scholarly trials. At the same time, a tender, forbidden affection blossoms between the poet and a woman of lower caste, adding a personal layer of tension to his public challenges.
