Karthik Calling Karthik

Born in Delhi and living in Mumbai, Karthik Narayan endures abuse at work at ACL Construction. His boss Kamath belittles him for not closing deals, despite his own quiet successes. He harbors a secret crush on Shonali Mukherjee, who is dating another coworker.

Karthik handles all paperwork and is forced to work all night on urgent deadlines. He prepares 11 contracts for one client only to be told next morning that he was asked to prepare for two clients. Frustration leads him to smash his home phone and buy a new one.

Karthik's overbearing landlord deducts from his deposit for lift repair and demands more money or eviction. He struggles with debt and unfair demands, amplifying his sense of powerlessness.

Karthik recalls his elder brother Kumar torturing him. One day Kumar takes him to a well and tries to push him in; Kumar accidentally falls in and dies, leaving Karthik with lifelong guilt.

Karthik attends therapy and asks his boss for an apology after being mocked in front of the office. After humiliation, he contemplates suicide.

A stranger with the same voice phones at 5:00 AM claiming to be Karthik, offering life-changing advice. The caller provides intimate details about his life, convincing him to follow the guidance.

Following the calls, Karthik learns to say no, receives a makeover, and becomes more assertive. He uses his insider knowledge to impress Kamath and gets promoted.

Karthik befriends Shonali by threatening Ashish to reveal his wife and kids, winning her affection. She confesses love, and he shares his unusual calls with her, which she suspects.

Shonali seeks help from psychiatrist Dr. Shweta Kapadia, who is told by the caller's voice that the calls are real. The caller reveals Kapadia's own personal secrets, frightening her and causing her to run away.

The voice reveals illegal deals, leading to Karthik's firing; the calls also drive Shonali away, who is told he is a prostitute. His professional downfall mirrors his personal unraveling.

To escape the calls, Karthik travels to an unknown city, buys a ticket, blindfolds himself, and checks into a hotel for two weeks. He starts life anew in Cochin, avoiding any phone line.

Back in Cochin, the 5:00 AM call returns; Dr. Shweta Kapadia reveals that Karthik suffers from schizophrenia and that his alter-ego is guiding him. The phone records reveal how he wakes up at night to leave messages for himself.

Karthik attempts suicide again; Shonali arrives at the right time to save him. They reconcile and support him as he continues treatment.

Months later, Karthik is managing his disorder with support from Shonali and living a rehabilitated life. He remains hopeful about their future together as he continues treatment.
