Kandaen

Vasanth travels to his hometown to visit his grandfather and discovers an arranged marriage is being forced on him. To dodge the match, he pretends he is already in love with a girl. He then heads back to Chennai, and the wheels of fate begin turning toward an impossible romance.

At first sight, Narmada captures his heart and he decides to win her affection by pretending to be blind. They grow closer and begin dating, their bond deepening as he maintains the guise. Narmada falls for him, unaware of his ruse.

Narmada's father, a police commissioner, objects to the idea of marrying a man who is supposedly blind. The couple decide to wed at the registrar's office without parental consent.

During the proceedings, Narmada discovers Vasanth is not blind and reacts with anger, leaving the registrar's office. After he apologizes, she forgives him and their engagement follows.

Their engagement follows and a fragile happiness settles over them. They cling to the hope that their unusual start can still lead to a future together.

To celebrate, Vasanth and his friends go to a bar where he drinks and clashes with a gang that had harassed Narmada. In the ensuing fight, an iron rod strikes the back of his head, injuring his optical nerves and costing him his sight.

A doctor warns that laser treatment might restore his vision, but the operation cannot happen until the head wound heals and the London surgeon can be flown in.

Discharged from the hospital, Vasanth asks the doctor to keep his condition secret. Tensions rise when Narmada and her father return with Shankar, making it clear Vasanth would not have been accepted if blind, and the couple realize they cannot be sure of his condition.

Vasanth asks a girl for help while crossing the road, and Narmada misreads it as infidelity. Saami, Narmada's father, is arrested, and plans form to marry Narmada off to another suitor on the same date.

Saami is bailed out, and the London ophthalmologist's flight is canceled. Vasanth, accompanied by a Chennai doctor, boards a flight to London—with Narmada aboard as well.

An air hostess who had helped Vasanth before turns out to be the same girl, and she tries to warn the crew that Vasanth deceives by pretending to be blind. The cabin staff end up telling Narmada the truth.

Realizing the truth, Narmada reconciles with Vasanth. In London, the operation is successful and his eyesight is restored, and they return to India to start their life together.
