Kanchana

Raghava becomes possessed when his cricket wickets pierce the graves of buried corpses on the abandoned land. This disturbs the spirits of Kanchana (a transgender woman), Akbar Bhai (a Muslim man), and his autistic son, who were murdered and buried there by MLA Shankar. The spirits then attach themselves to Raghava's home and eventually possess him.

Earlier, Raghava and his friends notice strange weather at the abandoned land but leave without realizing they've disturbed sacred ground.

Kanchana is the main spirit possessing Raghava. She was born as Karthik, a transgender woman who was disowned by her parents for her sexuality. She was later adopted by a Muslim man named Akbar Bhai, who had an autistic son. Kanchana pursued her dream of becoming a doctor and bought land to build a hospital for the poor, but her dreams were shattered when MLA Shankar murdered her, Akbar Bhai, and his son to seize the land.

Kanchana seeks revenge against MLA Shankar because he murdered her and her family to steal her land. Shankar wanted the land because he desired Madhavi, a woman he loved. He killed Kanchana, Akbar Bhai, and forced Akbar's autistic son to commit suicide before burying all three bodies beneath the land.

The story reveals Shankar's motive through the flashback showing his obsession with Madhavi and his decision to eliminate Kanchana.

Raghava kills Madhavi while possessed by the spirits. He strangles her to death without being aware of his actions, as the three spirits control his body. After killing her, he unknowingly disposes of her body. This violent act occurs because the spirits are driving him to carry out their revenge, though Madhavi was not directly involved in their murder.

Raghava's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent before the murder, showing signs of possession.

Kanchana enters the Narasimha temple by praying to Lord Narasimha and asking for permission to kill the corrupt Shankar, who sought refuge inside. The temple is normally inviolable, meaning spirits cannot enter. However, Lord Narasimha answers her prayer and grants her entry, allowing her to kill Shankar in a way that mirrors Narasimha's mythological killing of Hiranyakashipu.

The film's mythology establishes early that temples are sanctuaries where spirits cannot tread.

Raghava begins acting effeminate because he is possessed by three spirits, one of whom is Kanchana, a transgender woman. Her feminine nature influences Raghava's behavior, causing him to wear women's clothing, jewelry, and display uncharacteristic mannerisms. This transformation shocks his family and marks the beginning of his possession.

After returning home from the trip, Raghava immediately exhibits strange behavior that concerns his family.

Kanchana purchased the land with the intention of building a hospital for the poor. However, MLA Shankar illegally seized the land because he wanted it to get closer to Madhavi, the woman he loved. To cover his crime of stealing the land, Shankar murdered Kanchana, Akbar Bhai, and Akbar's autistic son, burying their bodies beneath the land.

The abandoned land where Raghava plays cricket is revealed to be the same property Kanchana bought.

The spirits became attached to Raghava's house after he and his friends used the abandoned land for cricket. Their cricket wickets pierced the graves of the murdered bodies buried beneath the land. This disturbance released the spirits, who followed Raghava home and began haunting the household before eventually possessing him.

Strange weather and an eerie atmosphere occur at the abandoned land during the cricket game.
