Biman and Dipa are unable to maintain their maternal uncle's ancestral house, so they sell it to a buyer who plans to demolish it and redevelop the site. Biman recounts the life of his mother's uncle, Dharma Narayan Rao, who converted to Christianity and became Gregory Rao. He was banished from the family for his new faith and later returned as an eccentric figure who spoke of a valuable possession. After Rao's death, the room was searched but no treasure was found.

The tale suggests that Gregory Rao had a valuable item in his possession, fueling curiosity among the visitors. Leads about the treasure surface but no one has a concrete clue yet. The mystery deepens as the family and dealer contemplate where the item could be hidden.

The next morning, the group inspects the room and Asit Dhar spots something that fuels his greed. In a swift moment, he pushes Kakababu down the stairs while Biman and his wife rush to help, then escapes with the item.

Kakababu seeks police assistance to recover the stolen item and asks Santu to observe Asit Dhar and photograph his movements. The plan relies on tracking Dhar's daily routine and any dealings related to the theft. Tension builds as the search intensifies.

At the end of the day, Asit Dhar returns to Kakababu and hands over 12 pearls and some jewelry that he found in the bed on which Gregory Rao slept. He insists these are what he stole, not the Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah ruby necklace everyone suspects. The revelation shifts the focus of the mystery.

Santu pushes Asit Dhar, and his briefcase opens to reveal a Gutenberg Bible. Kakababu realizes that this is the item he actually stole, not the rumored jewel. The Bible's rediscovery redefines the case's motive and significance.

The trio rushes to intercept Asit Dhar at the airport before he boards a flight to London. They manage to nab him there and recover the Bible as evidence. The chase marks the culmination of their investigation.

Kakababu decides the Bible will be kept in the National Library with Asit Dhar named as its discoverer. The case closes with formal recognition of the artifact’s provenance. The Bible becomes a lasting testament to the mystery’s resolution.
