Deepak is an aspiring filmmaker chasing the dream of producing his first feature. He earns a chance to travel to Coonoor to write a script, where he meets and falls in love with Geetha. After a heartfelt, hopeful courtship, Geetha understands his passion and convinces her father to give their union a chance. The couple vows to marry once Deepak completes his debut film. He heads to Chennai, promising to keep Geetha updated through letters.
However, the Post Man, secretly in love with Geetha, hides all the letters Deepak sends and even changes his own address to block any communication. A growing rift forms between the lovers, born from the silence and misunderstandings that follow. Geetha and her father eventually search for Deepak and locate him on a busy movie set. Yet their reunion is marred by a misreading of intent: they hear him shouting at Deepak's assistant to his crew, and misinterpret the moment as hostility directed at them, prompting them to walk away.
Deepak is heartbroken when he learns of Geetha’s visit, but she remains absent from his life. Years pass, and he emerges as a highly successful director. In his relentless pursuit of new talent, he encounters Rajiv [abbas], a young man who is poor in means but rich in dreams of becoming a movie star. Deepak recognizes the toll the cine world can take and advises Rajiv to return to his family, convinced that Rajiv’s chances are better off the level path he could offer. This advice sets off a chain reaction, as Rajiv faces rejection from other directors and Presumably spirals into despair, even attempting suicide.
Fate takes a turn when Deepak overhears a conversation between Geetha and a friend in a crowded, impoverished slum. At first, he is buoyed by the chance of a reunion, but the sight of Geetha living in such conditions weighs heavily on him. It’s revealed that Rajiv has married Geetha, and she supports Rajiv’s dream—while also being repulsed to learn that Deepak still harbors feelings for her, which she interprets as an obstacle to Rajiv’s career. This misunderstanding prompts Deepak to try to repair the damage.
Determined to set things right, Deepak invites Rajiv to his studio with a single condition: Rajiv must not tell Geetha that he is playing the lead in Deepak’s film. Rajiv agrees, and Deepak reshapes the project to fit his new star. The changes force the original hero to be dropped, triggering friction with the producer, who ends up dumping Deepak. Fueled by love for Geetha, Deepak finances the film himself, taking on heavy loans.
On the set, the angered actor who loses his role lashes out and stabs Deepak. He is rushed to hospital as his health deteriorates, while creditors press for repayment. Deepak fights to finish the movie, shouldering debts and hardship, and eventually completes and releases it. He watches the film in a theater, surrounded by ordinary moviegoers, feeling impoverished yet triumphant because he has given Geetha the dream of seeing her husband become a hero.
Rajiv finally reveals the truth about the movie to Geetha, and she is upset to learn that Deepak is the director, though she begins to understand the immense hardships he endured. In a cruel twist of fate, Geetha encounters the postman again and learns that it was his actions that ruined her life, not Deepak. She searches for Deepak and finds him in a theater, only to discover him dead, a final, quiet smile on his face.
