Kabir Singh

Kabir Rajdheer Singh is the youngest son of a powerful business family, studying at the Delhi Institute of Medical Sciences. He carries a rebellious streak and anger that earn him a reputation as a bully. After a heated brawl with the opposing team during an inter-college football match, the dean gives him a stark choice: apologize or leave. He refuses to back down, drawn instead to a new student, Preeti Sikka, whose presence shifts the course of his life.

Kabir and his circle let the student body know that Kabir has “exclusively claimed” Preeti, and though she is initially shy, she slowly adapts to his overpowering personality. Over time, she returns his affection, and their relationship deepens into romance and physical intimacy. After earning an MBBS, Kabir moves to Mussoorie for further studies, and despite the miles between them, their bond strengthens across the years. When Preeti finishes her degree, she introduces Kabir to her conservative parents, but her father Harpal catches them kissing and ejects Kabir from the house.

Harpal remains adamant about keeping the couple apart, and Kabir, unable to bridge the gap, demands that Preeti choose him or her family within six hours, threatening to end things otherwise. Preeti cannot reach him in time, and in a moment of desperation, Kabir injects morphine and falls into unconsciousness for two days. Awakening, he discovers that Preeti is being pushed toward an arranged marriage. He gatecrashes the wedding, is beaten and arrested by Harpal, and, after his release, is ostracised by Rajdheer from the family for his reckless behavior.

With his friend Shiva’s support, Kabir rents a flat and starts working as a surgeon at a private hospital. To cope with his pain, he leans on drugs and alcohol and even names his new dog after Preeti. He quickly becomes a skilled surgeon, while also becoming a high-functioning alcoholic who commands both respect and fear within the hospital. His self-destructive habits worry his friends and colleagues as his life spirals.

One day, while hungover, Kabir is called in for an emergency operation. He collapses from dehydration, and the hospital takes blood samples that reveal alcohol and cocaine use. A formal case is filed, and in a painful in-house hearing, Kabir admits to alcoholism and breaches of medical ethics. His medical license is suspended for five years, and he is evicted from his apartment. The next morning brings news of his grandmother’s death, and at the funeral, he and his father reconcile. Kabir resolves to change his ways.

A few days later, Kabir discovers a pregnant Preeti sitting alone in a park. He offers to raise the child with her if she is unhappy in her marriage. She initially recoils, but as she voices anger about being abandoned and learns more about Kabir’s past, she reveals that she left her husband soon after their wedding and has been supporting herself. She also discloses that the child is Kabir’s. The two decide to marry and begin rebuilding their lives with their families. Harpal apologises to them, and the two families come together. The film closes with Kabir and Preeti walking along a beach with their baby, signaling a hopeful new chapter.
