High‑school senior Peter sees the adults around him as hypocritical and stuck in the past, and he is suspended after submitting an essay deemed a challenge to the state. The film was among twelve works banned in 1965‑66 for alleged anti‑socialist content; scenes and the ending were altered and reshot twice. Restored by cinematographer Ost in 1989, it finally screened in January 1990 and has since been praised as a landmark of critical realism.
