In Ann Arbor, Michigan, a young teenager named David Rice, portrayed by Hayden Christensen, surprises his crush, Millie, with a special gift—a snow globe featuring the stunning Eiffel Tower. This gesture reflects her aspirations of traveling one day. However, things take a turn when a bully named Mark, played by Jesse James, maliciously hurls the globe onto the icy riverbank. In a desperate attempt to retrieve it, David falls through the ice and gets swept away by the current. To his shock, he suddenly reappears in the local library, soaking wet and bewildered. Here, he discovers an extraordinary ability to “Jump,” which allows him to teleport from one location to another. Disillusioned with his life, David chooses to flee and is presumed dead by his alcoholic father.

Fast forward eight years later, and we find an adult David, still portrayed by Hayden Christensen, immersed in a life filled with thrill and adventure. He spends his days leaping across various continents, indulging in extravagant sports, and living luxuriously on money he has stolen from banks with his unique talent. Despite witnessing a major disaster on the news, he selfishly refrains from using his powers for good. After a particularly reckless escapade that includes seducing a woman in London, David’s carefree existence is shattered when he is ambushed in his home by Roland Cox, a relentless character brought to life by Samuel L. Jackson. Roland attempts to ensnare David with a network of high-voltage cables designed to nullify his teleportation ability. However, David manages to escape, returning to Ann Arbor to reconnect with the now-grown Millie, played by Rachel Bilson.

In a twist of fate, upon his arrival, David confronts Mark, now played by Teddy Dunn, and teleports him into a bank vault as a form of retribution. Soon after, he invites Millie to accompany him on a trip to Rome—this time by traditional means. Unbeknownst to them, Roland leads an organization hell-bent on exterminating Jumpers, believing that only God should possess such powers. After David and Millie land in Rome, he tries to conceal his true nature as a thief, which leads to a blossoming romance between them.

Their escapades take a dangerous turn when David discovers another Jumper named Griffin, portrayed by Jamie Bell, who warns him about the “Paladins,” an extremist group that hunts down Jumpers. The situation escalates when the Paladins invade, resulting in a chaotic battle where Griffin brutally fights back, taking one of his enemies with him when he jumps away. During a moment of vulnerability, David is captured by the Italian police while trying to rescue Millie, who, after confronting him about his secrets, is put on a plane back home.

Determined to confront this new threat, David jumps to Griffin’s hideout to seek help in taking down Roland. Griffin reveals the Paladins’ gruesome history and their vendetta against Jumpers. With urgency, David teleports to his father to save him before returning to Griffin, where they plot to rescue Millie. However, upon discovering that her flight has already landed, David races against time while Griffin gathers weapons.

When David breaks into Millie’s apartment, he shows her his powers in a bid to earn her trust just as Roland arrives. He successfully teleports her to safety, but the Paladins follow closely behind, leading to an intense pursuit that culminates in a series of confrontations across various locations. Griffin, feeling desperate, decides to resort to extreme measures to eliminate the threat, leading to a confrontational split between him and David, who is determined to save Millie at all costs.

Their journey takes them into a fierce battle against the Paladins, which seemingly reaches a climax as David utilizes his teleporting abilities to thwart the impending danger and ultimately trap Roland in an isolated location, leaving him powerless. In a surprising turn of events, he reunites with his mother, Mary, played by Diane Lane, who reveals family secrets and her own ties to the Paladin organization.

As the story closes, David and Millie embark on a new chapter together, ready to jump into the unknown—this time united and with newfound resolve, leaving everything behind as they discover the true meaning of freedom.
