Journey to the Center of Time

Stanton has taken charge of a research company after his father’s death, and he makes a stark demand: if the team of scientists doesn’t prove their time travel experiments yield real results, their funding will be cut. The group, led by Mark Manning, with Dr. (Doc) Gordon and Karen White, feels the pressure acutely. Desperation pushes them to push the equipment past safety limits, ignoring warnings as they push toward a dangerous brink. When a test finally fires, the team—and their anxious benefactor—are hurled 5,000 years into the future, stepping into a world nothing like their own and into a crisis that could threaten humanity back home.

On this distant horizon, they meet aliens led by Vina, a figure who views Earth as a potential new home for her people. The invaders are not greeted warmly; Earth is caught in a brutal global war, and the aliens’ arrival only intensifies the tension between survival and coexistence. Vina urges the travelers to return and warn humanity about the coming danger, but her plea comes too late: she dies in a human attack before the plan can be set in motion. The time travelers retreat to their chamber, set course back toward their own era, and brace for the consequences of what they’ve unleashed. Along the way, they detect another time machine hurtling toward them on a collision course. Manning tries to communicate, but the effort fails, and their own weapon proves too weak to stop the approaching craft. Stanton seizes command, boosts the machine’s power, and destroys the rival vessel, saving them from a catastrophic clash that could have rewritten history.

Their journey overshoots the present and propels them into the distant past, landing in the era of towering dinosaurs. The machine’s giant ruby—an essential component—has been destroyed, stranding them in a primitive, perilous world. While exploring a nearby cave, they discover a trove of jewels, including rubies, gleaming amid ancient walls. The allure of wealth corrupts Stanton, who greedily pockets several gems and returns to the time chamber, replacing the ruby before leaving the others behind. His flight is not without consequence, however: on the return trip, he encounters another time machine approaching on a collision course. As he hears a radio broadcast from Manning, he understands with horror that he is careening toward the earlier version of his own machine. The blast that erupts from that earlier craft claims him, and he is killed in the ensuing temporal catastrophe.

Back in the present, Gordon stumbles and falls to a molten death, a brutal reminder of the perils surrounding their experiment. Mark and Karen discover the time machine has vanished, only to reappear again moments later. They board it, hoping to return to their own time, but instead arrive the day before they departed, witnessing their past selves living at a much slower rate. They rush back to the machine to repair the timeline, yet find themselves hopelessly lost in a maze of time and space. In the final shots, the machine drifts among the stars, carrying the two scientists toward an unknown fate, leaving viewers with a quiet sense of mystery about what waits beyond the next tick of the clock.
