Kannan Prashanth is a young music shop employee with a simple dream: to find a girl who wears gold anklets. One day, as he goes about his routine, he spots the feet of a running girl and feels an undeniable pull toward her. He follows the sighting and somehow ends up at a music college where a talented student named Gayathri Simran studies and works with her friends. Their first real encounter is charged with intention and misgivings, as Kannan eagerly tries to get close while Gayathri is wary of his motives. The two are drawn to each other, but their initial clash hints at a much more complex journey ahead.
Gayathri and her circle ask Kannan not to repair the college instruments, arguing that the instruments are old and unusable for the upcoming music contest. Seizing the moment, Kannan uses the chance to get closer to her, but she interprets his actions as meddling rather than affection. Despite the rough start, the two find themselves ending up side by side as they travel to Bangalore for the big music contest. There, Gayathri spots a troubling clue: she sees money changing hands between Kannan and a rival music troupe. The day of the contest arrives, and to their shock, they discover that the song Gayathri and her team composed has been stolen by the opposing group.
To make matters worse, Gayathri believes Kannan is implicated in the theft. He pleads his innocence, insisting he only took money to repair and fix their instruments—money the rival troupe paid to upgrade the gear for the competition. In a moment of vulnerability, Kannan lends Gayathri one of the love poems he wrote for her, and she decides to sing it in the contest. Her performance is powerful and wins the prize, but more importantly, it helps Gayathri realize that Kannan did not steal their work; his generosity was misread, and his loyalty shines through. With the truth revealed, Gayathri understands his innocence and, moved by the revelation, they begin dating. Soon after, a grave piece of news arrives: Kannan’s father has been injured, and he hurries back home.
Back at home, Rudramurthy [Nassar] works at a registrar’s office and devotes himself to preventing love marriages that often lack parental consent. He has witnessed marriages collapse under pressure and refuses to support them, a stance that creates friction within Kannan’s world. His rigid beliefs collide with the emotional realities of Kannan’s romance with Gayathri, intensified by an atmosphere of family debt and social expectations. On the other side, Gayathri’s family carries its own heavy burden. Her father—stricken and deeply remorseful after a painful incident in the past—struggles with the idea of letting his daughter marry someone the family did not fully approve.
To bridge the gap between two families, Kannan and Gayathri devise a daring plan: they will visit each other’s homes to earn permission, adopting disguises to test the waters. Gayathri travels to Kannan’s home posing as the long-lost daughter of a troublesome neighbor, while Kannan pretends to be a vagabond to reach Gayathri’s house and prove his love. Their deception is a bold move, but it sets the stage for truth, reconciliation, and a deeper understanding between two families torn by fear and pride.
The gambit pays off in a surprising way. When Gayathri visits Rudramurthy’s home, she manages to calm a tense moment by stepping in to stop his daughter from running away with a lover. Her courage and compassion soften Rudramurthy, and he begins to see her as a daughter-in-law rather than a social risk. At the same time, Kannan learns the roots of Gayathri’s father’s distress: Vengudu [Vijayakumar], a renowned music critic, has carried a heavy burden—his blistering critique of a male vocalist led to tragedy, and the singer’s wife pressed him with a painful past that colors his every move. The weight of guilt has kept Vengudu isolated and reluctant to meddle in his daughter’s life or in Gayathri’s choices.
Seeking to heal old wounds, Kannan visits the family of the departed vocalist and pleads for forgiveness, asking them to open their hearts to the possibility of reconciliation. They respond, and a new proposal arises: the mother of the vocalist’s family suggests a marriage alliance between her son Sivabalan and Gayathri, aligning two different generations and easing the burden of guilt that has shadowed Vengudu for years. When Vengudu learns of this, he is initially hesitant, but the idea of uniting two loving hearts—accompanied by a chance to lift a heavy past—appeals to him. He agrees, hoping this arrangement will bring relief to his own guilt and restore balance in Gayathri’s life.
On the wedding day, a pivotal moment arrives. Sivabalan takes the stage and delivers a performance of the love song that Kannan had written for Gayathri and that Gayathri herself sang during the Bangalore contest. The moment crystallizes the truth for Gayathri: the song she cherished was born from Kannan’s heart, and his name is tied to the music that bound them together. Sivabalan’s rendition becomes a bridge between families, and his act of sharing Kannan’s lyric helps to reveal the long-hidden bond between the two lovers. Hearing the song, Gayathri hurries to find Kannan, their reunion marked by a shared understanding and profound relief. Sivabalan explains the bond between Kannan and Gayathri, urging Vengudu to let them be together. Touched by the revelation and the possibility of healing his own remorse, Vengudu accepts their union.
In the end, the lovers—Kannan and Gayathri—are united, having traversed a landscape of misperception, parental fear, and the healing power of shared music. Their journey—from a chance encounter in a music college to a quest for family acceptance and forgiveness—highlights the themes of trust, perseverance, and the way art can connect hearts across generations and past hurts. The tale closes with a sense of hope: love endures, families find common ground, and a young couple steps forward, hand in hand, ready to compose a future together.
