Kannan, a young music shop employee, notices a girl running with gold anklets and recognises her as the dream girl he has been imagining. He decides to find her and follows the trail through the streets, hoping to meet her. This moment sets the course for the romance that follows.

He travels to a music college to repair instruments and encounters Gayathri, a student. Gayathri and her friends approach him and ask him not to repair the instruments, claiming they are old. He uses this as an opportunity to get closer to her, though she grows annoyed by his behavior.

Kannan accompanies Gayathri to Bangalore for the important music contest. There, Gayathri sees him receive money from a rival band after repairing their instruments, which sours her trust in him. The trip deepens the tension between romance and suspicion.

On the day of the contest, Gayathri and her team discover their song has been stolen by a rival troupe. She suspects Kannan of involvement, even though he protests his innocence. To prove his sincerity, he lends her one of the love poems he wrote for her, which she sings to win the contest.

With the misunderstanding resolved, Kannan and Gayathri begin dating and open up about their feelings for each other. Their success at the contest strengthens their bond and commitment.

Kannan receives news that his father Rudramurthy has been injured, prompting him to rush back to his family. The family crisis adds pressure on the couple as they balance love with looming family obligations.

Rudramurthy, who works at the registrar, opposes love marriages and even prevents one by advising the girl to return home, which is met with violence from the groom's associates. This underscores the difficulties facing the couple from conservative families.

Gayathri learns of a father depressed by a past incident, and she is haunted by the suicides of a friend and her lover due to parental pressure. These tragedies deepen her fear about marrying Kannan and underscore the need for family reconciliation.

To secure consent, the couple resolves to visit each other's families and demonstrate their love and commitment. They prepare to navigate the social expectations that threaten their union.

Gayathri travels to Kannan's home posing as the lost daughter of a troublesome neighbor, while Kannan goes to Gayathri's home with the aim of earning acceptance. Their ruse risks their reputations but tests their families' willingness to see beyond appearances.

Gayathri demonstrates courage by stopping Rudramurthy's daughter from running away with her lover, earning his respect and warmer regard. Rudramurthy accepts Gayathri as a potential daughter-in-law, easing a major obstacle to the union.

Kannan visits his home and learns of Gayathri's father Vengudu's deep remorse over a past incident caused by a critic's harsh judgment. He seeks forgiveness by explaining the current situation to the vocalist's family, and they respond positively. A marriage alliance between Sivabalan and Gayathri is proposed and welcomed by Vengudu.

On the day of the marriage, Sivabalan sings the love song Kannan wrote for Gayathri, revealing their true feelings. Hearing this, Gayathri rushes to Kannan, and Sivabalan explains to Vengudu that the couple truly loves each other. Moved by the revelation, Vengudu blesses the union and Kannan and Gayathri are finally united.
