In 1968, Pastor Chuck Smith faces the daunting task of revitalizing his church, which is failing to resonate with the youth of the hippie movement. Despite his esteemed position, he feels a disconnect between his conservative values and the vibrant culture surrounding him.

One fateful day, Chuck's daughter Janette picks up a lively hitchhiker named Lonnie Frisbee. Claiming to spread Jesus' message, Frisbee piques Chuck's curiosity, and despite his initial hesitation, Chuck starts to open his home to this unconventional traveler.

In a pivotal moment, Frisbee introduces Chuck to a band called Love Song, who perform an impromptu concert in his living room. This heartwarming experience catalyzes Chuck's acceptance of the free-spirited youth and the potential for a new form of ministry.

High school student Greg Laurie starts to rebel against the rigid structure of his Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps class. Instead, he chooses to accompany Cathe to a Janis Joplin concert, where they encounter the controversial Timothy Leary promoting drug use.

As Greg witnesses the reckless actions of his peers, including Cathe's sister suffering a drug overdose, he becomes increasingly concerned. The situation escalates when Cathe confronts Greg, voicing her worries about his indifference towards the dangers of drug culture, straining their friendship.

In a surprising turn of events, Cathe listens to Frisbee preach at a local hippie commune, and Greg arrives just in time. They reconcile their friendship, and Cathe enthusiastically invites Greg to join her at a welcoming church she has discovered.

Excited by the open environment of Chuck Smith and Frisbee's ministry, both Greg and Cathe embrace this new community. Despite Cathe's strict parents disapproving of Greg, the couple becomes integral to the growing movement.

As the movement expands, it garners significant media attention, coming to be known as the 'Jesus Revolution' or the 'Jesus freaks.' Their impact is solidified when they appear on the cover of *Time* magazine in 1971, showcasing the movement's reach.

Over time, tensions build between Chuck and Lonnie Frisbee, culminating in Frisbee's decision to leave for Florida after a disagreement. This marks a turning point in their partnership as differing visions cause a rift in their relationship.

With Frisbee's departure, Greg steps up to lead a branch of the ministry in Riverside. He quickly establishes himself as a key figure, eventually marrying Cathe and shaping his own path as a prominent pastor within the movement.

As the Jesus movement continues to expand, both Chuck and Frisbee emerge as influential leaders within the Calvary Chapel community. Their efforts leave a profound and lasting legacy in the spiritual landscape of the time.
