James' Journey to Jerusalem

James, a young African teenager, embarks on a sacred journey to the Holy Land. His genuine intentions to seek spiritual fulfillment drive him to seek the sacred land he has only dreamed of.

Upon arriving, James's intentions are tragically misunderstood by Israeli authorities, leading to his wrongful labeling as an illegal foreign worker. This sets off a chain of events that dramatically alters the course of his journey.

While in custody, James's fate changes with the intervention of Shimi, a cunning contractor. Shimi exploits James's situation, offering him freedom but with the condition of working under his dubious contracts.

After gaining his freedom, James finds himself entrapped in a web of manipulation as he starts working for Shimi. He struggles between his original goals and the demands of his new life.

James becomes increasingly aware that Shimi's wife views him as nothing more than entertainment. This realization adds to his sense of isolation, emphasizing that he is just a pawn in their lives.

Shimi's father, Salah, takes notice of James's remarkable luck with dice and uses it to dominate in backgammon. This newfound reputation changes James's status among his peers and complicates his life further.

As James gradually adapts to local culture, he experiences both blessings and burdens. His original intention of settling his debt to Shimi and reaching Jerusalem starts to fade as he becomes consumed by his new lifestyle.

With his increasing involvement in cheap labor contracting, James begins to enjoy material comforts that once seemed out of reach. Stylish clothing and modern conveniences replace his initial goals of pilgrimage.

As James enjoys his newfound wealth, he reflects on how his journey's noble goal has shifted into obscurity. His material gains contrast sharply with the spiritual journey he once aspired to undertake.

James's life takes another tumultuous turn when he is apprehended by immigration police. Taken into custody, he is transferred to an Israeli prison, further complicating his situation.
