Varun Blake is an Indian-born Atlanta police detective whose life is shadowed by a string of painful events: the loss of his biological family in India, the transition to a predominantly white school system in the United States, and the death of his partner. These experiences harden him into a temperamental, troubled figure, and his strained behavior pushes his Indian wife, Roshni, toward divorce and leaving the family home with their daughter. The emotional fallout ripples through his personal life as he tries to navigate duty, memory, and a sense of belonging in a new country.
Seeking connection, he enters a complicated rebound relationship with a local news reporter, Kate Brown. After earning American citizenship, Roshni begins working at a newly outsourced Indian company in Atlanta called InfoTech. She soon discovers that the company’s young but ambitious director is her childhood friend, Krish Hebbar, and the two begin meeting outside the office, much to Varun’s dismay since he still harbors feelings for his ex-wife. The tension between personal loyalties and professional duty strains everyone involved, setting the stage for a web of competing loyalties and concealed motives.
As the story unfolds, several Indian-born young men employed by outsourced companies are found murdered by a professional serial killer. The only clear link among the victims is that they all had some connection to Krish. Varun brings Krish in for questioning, but there isn’t enough evidence to arrest him, leaving the case in a precarious standstill and casting doubt on Krish’s true character. Krish’s edges begin to show when he quietly pressure-tests his boss to secure a promotion, hinting at ambition that may override ethics.
On a dinner-date night, Roshni stumbles upon photographs of the girl Krish forced to enter his boss’s cabin, and she confronts Krish, declaring that she no longer trusts him. Krish attempts to explain, but his defenses crumble, and his plan to propose to her remains unfulfilled. The revelations deepen the rift between them and complicate the path forward for all involved.
With further investigation, Varun discovers that the real murderer is a former soldier who was fired from several jobs and was then taken in by Indian immigrants. The soldier targets Krish, who had assumed the soldier’s job years earlier, prompting a dangerous confrontation. Varun ultimately steps in to save Krish from harm, underscoring the thin line between justice and personal vengeance that runs through the case.
In the end, Krish marries Roshni and the couple moves back to India to work for the Indian branch of their company, InfoTech, in order to be closer to family. The resolution brings a sense of closure for some, while reaffirming the complexities of love, loyalty, and identity that have driven the narrative from the start.
