In the quaint town of Riverton, Ohio, we meet John Brown, who lives with his niece Penny and her loyal dog, Brain. John's aspirations of becoming a police officer lead him to work as a security guard at the Bradford robotics laboratory, where innovative projects are developed.

Under the guidance of Artemus Bradford and his daughter Brenda, John becomes accustomed to the exciting developments at the lab. Among these is the groundbreaking Gadget Program, intended to incorporate androids as law enforcement officers, showcasing the potential of robotics in public service.

Chaos erupts when Sanford Scolex infiltrates the laboratory with a robotic tank. His malicious intent culminates in the theft of a lifelike robotic foot and the shocking murder of Artemus, leaving the staff and John in disarray while Scolex enacts his schemes.

Determined to stop Scolex, John attempts to pursue him in his reliable hatchback. However, after slipping on a strategically placed oil slick, John's vehicle crashes dramatically, leading to his presumed death and a shocking series of events.

In a bizarre turn of events, a bowling ball from the explosion that obliterated John's car lands on Scolex, injuring him. This ironic twist sets the stage for John's extraordinary revival in the lab amid the aftermath of the chaos.

Brenda decides to resurrect John as the prototype for the Gadget Program. With advanced gadgets and a control chip implanted to enhance his capabilities, John is reborn as Inspector Gadget, though not without some initial clumsy mishaps.

John’s new gadgets lead him to thwart a pair of car thieves, marking his first small victory as Inspector Gadget. This encounter demonstrates the potential of his new abilities, although he still struggles with the complexities of his high-tech equipment.

Brenda and Penny, alongside Brain, finally locate John, reviving him with a kiss. Reunited, they strengthen their resolve and prepare for the climactic confrontation with Scolex and his android creation.
